Teen injured in water-scooter accident

A 17-year-boy on an excursion with friends suffered head injuries Monday in a water-scooter accident in Sunrise.
The accident occurred just before 1:30 p.m. at Markham Park. According to Sunrise Fire Division Chief Thomas O'Connell, the boy, who has not been identified, was riding on an inner-tube behind a water scooter.
Somehow, he was flung against rocks. One of his friends saw him unconscious and pulled him from the rocks.
Two friends jumped on a water scooter and went for help. Several others stayed with the boy.
Because of the location, all-terrain vehicles, helicopters and an airboat were used in the rescue effort.
The unconscious boy was taken to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
