Airboat depreciation

tf

Well-known member
I am new to airboating and am looking for a good used airboat.

On the average how much can one expect airboats to depreciate each year?

Thanks,
tf

I don't think there is a set rule of thumb for airboat depreciation. I personally think it has to do with the whole set up. I would say that metal boats hold there value more than fiberglass but that is just a observation. On the other hand it sure seems like the cost of boats has risen drastically in the last five years.

I think it comes down to how a boat is taken care of and used. Two guys can have very similar boats for sale but one may be worth far more than the other. It comes down to what your getting for your dollar.
If one boat spent it's life under a tree with a piece of plywood covering the engine, rarely sees an oil change, and is abused in the woods too, it's not worth as much to me as the one that was taken care of and maintained properly.
I have an excellent 4 cylinder boat for sale for the same money you might be able to buy a six cylinder for, but cahces are your gonna spend time under the hood in the marsh. When I stop to drink some coffe at 1:00 am in the morning and I'm 12 miles from the launch, when I switch on the mags and push that little black button I want that thing to light.
Getting back to the subject, I don't think depreciation in value of an air boat necessarily has anything to do with age. I don't think Cowboy would take $1,000,000.00 for his 1972 "Woods Pussy".

Your analogy for the worth of an airboat is similar to the depreciation of an automobile. Kelley blue book, NADA, and Edmunds all have “book values on used cars. According to these books, the used car price factors in the condition of the car and arrives at a trade in value, a private party value and a retail value for a particular year, make and model of a car.

NADA has a section for airboats (nadaguides.com). After clicking on the year and model for the airboat, a price is given for low retail and average retail.

How do you feel the NADA guide fairs as the selling price for an airboat realizing these prices are for boats with basic equipment and adjusting for extras?
