Airboat helps capture deputy killer just a few minutes ago

Well-known member
Survivalist idiot, armed to the teeth, ambushed and then shot three law enforcement officers today and killed a Lake County, Florida deputy with a sawed off shotgun.

Escaped by motor cycle and then on foot into Ocala National Forrest. 500 officer manhunt.

Aluminum deck over airboat transported three man squad into impenetrable marsh jungle. Located suspect just before dusk. Short firefight.

Capturing officers OK, suspect shot & wounded and now on way to hospital in Orlando. Airboat then transported suspect, deputies and EMS across dry ground, along lakeside and back to waiting LCSO 4 WD truck for transport out of woods to copter.

I agree with cowboy, let GOD sort it out. I live in Tavares and have friends who are dipatchers for Lake county. I feel for the families of the wounded deputies and for the deputy that didn't make it. My families prayers are with them all and wish God speed for their recovery. May the Lord bless and keep strong the family of the slain deputy. As you all probably fell, JUSTICE must be served.

Well it's a grim day for me Because I have lost another Brave Law Enforcement brother and a big loss for you all in Florida,You have lost another brave public servant and leaves behind a Wife and kids.
If it was a Civilian that had the Airboat that helped in the capture of that murdering Dirt bag,if any one knows him and his Phone number please let me know.I want to personally call him and thank him for the help and It's just an Idea but if any one down there would like to put on a benifit Airboat ride to raise money to give to the widdow and children of the Deputy that was killed count me in.

Sniper & Airboatfever,

What a great idea. Count me in. I am volunteered up to my receeding hairline right now, but will find a way to assist your efforts on this one.

Why not target an August date to give time to plan and for the word to spread.

There is a Lake County airboat club.

I believe the Lake County Sheriffs department has 3 airboats. It was most likely one of them.

BigDaddy & Sniper - I'll be glad to help any way that I can.

Thanks for the pictures Cracker.

A benifit ride would be a great way to support the family. Please keep us informed on plans and how we might help. If you guys come up with some flyers Cowboy and I would be glad to post some out in Okeechobee. I also know an airboater up in Fellsmere, FL who is a Law Enforcement officer who might be interested and could help get the word out in his area.
I echo airboatfever's prayers for God to give comfort and strength to the families and fellow officers.

As the word spread that a Lake County Deputy was dead and two others seriously wounded in a gunfight, Deputy U.S. Marshals from the Middle District of Florida race to help in search of the accused cop killer.

The suspect, Jason Lee Wheeler, ambushed the deputies that responded to a 911 call from his girlfriend who ran to a neighbor’s residence to make the call. Wheeler was injured in the ensuing gunfight, but fled the area on a dirt bike that was later found ditched.

Deputy U.S. Marshals gathered all available resources to contribute to the search, involving more than 300 assembled officers. Marshals on scene and throughout the district fed information to the Electronic Surveillance Unit, which was airborne above the target area. Before the sun set on the Ocala National Forest, another gunfight erupted as a local SWAT team, working in an airboat, found Wheeler in swampy waters. He was about six miles from his home, the site of the original ambush. Wheeler was transported to the hospital where he remained in critical condition.

Deputy Wayne Koester died after being transferred to Florida Hospital. He is the first law enforcement officer in the state of Florida to die in the line of duty, and the eleventh nationwide. Deputies Bill Crotty and Tom McKane were shot in the leg and are in stable condition.

The Orlando HIDTA (High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area) F.A.S.T. (Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team) is comprised of law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service, Immigration Customs Enforcement and several other local agencies to include Orlando Police Department, Seminole, Orange, and Brevard County Sheriff's Offices. The task forces objective is to seek out and arrest violent fugitives. Last year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives on felony charges.
