Airboat Racing Uprise

I figure that the more post that I write about Airboat Racing the more people that might get more interested. It might be a lost cause but I really do not care. Just because everybody is so negative on the subject I will not stop writing until I get more people to be more interested. We have nothing to lose its a part of Florida's Heritage and i will not give up the fight we need to do something.

The Breavard County Air & Power boat assn. used to hold races fairly often out on Sarno Extension in Melbourne. I have no idea who is President anymore or even if they still do but someone on the forum might know for sure. They used to put on a decent all day event.

At the last meeting the airboat races were brought up for discussion for some time in September but the details are all being worked out so just be patient and we will keep you informed. But it looks good for September out there at Sarno.

I say lets pass the buck, and meet at B.S. Hill like we did 2 years ago.And see what we can put together. We had about 100 boats last time.

Question:
Is this all a liability issue? If so, who's to say that private boat-owners, like ourselves, can't just decide to race whenever they want? As long as no business entity is "sponsoring" it, only the boat owners are responsible for their own actions.
For instance, say 2 (or 3, or 20) people just happen to meet somewhere, and they get to talking, and decide to find out who's boat is the fastest? What if they just happen to line up at the same place and take off at the same time? Is there some law that says they can't?

That is a great idea however, they tried this up here in cocoa around Easter and it was a nigtmare. Mainly cuz the law caught wind. I don't have a race boat but I sure would like to watch some. But this brings up a good point. Does anyone know what the law is or if there is a law on racing. I have heard that there is no speedlimit however, I believe the law says something to the effect you must be in control of the boat. I have some buddy's who run the hot boats up off of 46 and they have had the law pull them over (no kidding) for looking like they were thinking about racing. They didn't get any fines but never the less that sucks. What about the Hill races they had in Cocoa a couple years ago. I think Diamondback had something do with those. (I guess this is were the insurance issues come in).

Here's another point:
People who race their boats certainly aren't in it for prize money. The financial risk they take to race is all on their own shoulders. I'm sure it's great to get money for winning, but there's no way a prize fund could cover the costs of fixing or replacing the things that could go wrong.
So why do they even need a "sponsor"? All who participate are their own sponsors. And their own insurors. Like we all are whenever we go riding.
I do understand there's always the SAFETY issue! So be CAREFUL!! Make sure the boat is sound, and the driver, too. Then GO FOR IT!!
:hello1:

Well said RN.Lets pass the buck get something going for 2/18/06 at BS Hill just south of Hwy 46 say around 12:00.

I hate to post pessimistic stuff, but here's a couple pics from a similiar event near BS Hill almost exactly 2 years ago. Someone said they counted about a 120 airboats that day.

First we seen a truck drive in, then that large helicopter landed. After that, Seminole County Sheriff's Department went boat to boat writing tickets. I think most of the tickets were for no mufflers. Seminole County has been enforcing a county ordinance requiring muffler for several years now.

To my knowledge, legal boats had no problem with the officers, but the race boats scattered immediately.

I remember that Rick. I was there. It was a hell of a turn out even with the weather being so bad.I say lets go again.2/18/06 at 12:00.

publicize a decoy race to draw the resources of the man away and then at least 60 miles away have a secret race with some lookouts with nextels

Good idea Croc, lets see what we can set-up.I'll pass the buck in my area Seminole and East Orange 2/18/05 at BS 12:00.

We race almost every weekend on lake Kissimmee at the Bus, or at Miles Point, hasn't been much going on lately though, probably because everyone is out hunting. The last race I set up on my web page was at Polluted Water on Kissimmee, and there was an accident, one man died, ( heart attack) and his boat ran over another man on the side lines and cut his leg off. Must of been at least 200 boats or more there. If ya'll set up some Outlaw racing you need to have someone in charge of safety for the event, at this one all the spectators were to close to the racing to start with.
