Airboat thief caught in Citrus County - Thanks Florida FWC

On March 23, Officer Rick Staton received a wildlife alert call from an informant in reference to an airboat that was headed to Gant Lake and was going to trespass turkey hunt. The information was relayed to Officer Mark Bishard who proceeded to the ramp and found the suspect’s vehicle. Officer Ken Hensley was called in and the officers canvassed the area, locating the airboat parked on private property. Officer Bishard located the hunter and cited him for simple trespass and placed him under arrest for a warrant out of Sumter County. Officers continued their interview and later found a stolen airboat out of Citrus County in the subject’s yard, along with a five-foot marijuana plant. Officers turned the investigation over to Sumter County Sheriff’s Dept.

We do have some good FWC folks up here in our neck of the woods that are willing to work long hours in tough conditions to get the trash out.

Does the Airboat theft carry the same penalties as auto theft?

Bet here is that Airboat Theft carries life sentence. That chap will most likely find it uncomfortable to stay in the area.

Have requested a copy of the arrest report and will advise further when / if it comes in. Disturbing thing here is it would seem from the allegations this fellow is an airboater and a hunter / poacher.

Was this the airboat recently stolen in Ft.Pierce
