On Saturday, April 24th, 45 members of the Kissimmee River Valley Sportsman's Association participated in the 11th Annual Project EAGLE - Winter Haven Chain of Lakes Cleanup.
Using 18 airboats, members of K.R.V.S.A. worked with nearly 300 other members of the Winter Haven community collecting over 4 tons of solid trash and junk.
Gathering at 8 AM on Lake Shipp, the airboaters maneuvered through the Winter Haven chain of lakes collecting trash until noon.
Among the trash collected were shopping carts, vacuum cleaners, 2 safes and a woman's pocketbook, complete with identification and credit cards.
During the Project EAGLE cleanup event is the only time that airboats are allowed on the Winter Haven Chain of Lakes. Ironically, there were no airboat noise complaints received by the Winter Haven Police Dept. during Saturday's event.
