Airboating for Answers 5/27/2006

Appreciate the participation. We are nearing our budget for Melissa'a boat. We are going in to this event with a great head of steam, the majority of the proceeds (in excess of what we still need for Melissa) will go to Shriner's Hospital Tampa. I have a commitment from the hospital that 100% of the money will stay with in the hospital and will go to benefit folks right here at home. This is going to be a wonderful day for airboaters.

Brad, thank you for all your hard work on this. It's going to be a Day folks will be talking about for a long time to come, and one that the airboating community genuinely deserves.
Now that this relationship with the Shriners has been established, what say everybody that we have an event like this one for them every year?
We can see if there is a time when their donations might be particularly slow every year, and plan the timing of our ride to coincide. I'm a huge fan of the Shriner's Hospitals.

NEED VOLUNTEERS, get me your name and number if you are coming and would be willing to take a Shriner or Mason with you. Several of these guys are wanting to help at card stations, we need to get them there. MORE IMPORTANTLY several want to participate on the water, this is a great relationship builder. For folks that may not be familiar with both the Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children, and the Shriner's Burn Centers, I'd like to tell you what I know about this:
The Shriners Hospitals were begun by, and are in whole part supported by the Shriners ...... you know, the guys with the funny hats on, riding motorcycles in a parade. All Shriners belong to the Masonic Lodge, an organization that dates back to biblical times.
The hospitals that this group of men support provide some of the finest, most up to date medical care available anywhere on the face of this earth, and the beauty of all of this is that when a child is recommended to one of these Hospitals or Burn Centers (and any Shriner can do that) the parents or guardian of that child won't have to pay one red cent ... nothing .... to receive that care. It is easily the most benevolent organization anywhere.
Please come out and help on May 27th.

Brad - it's too late in the evening to nextel ya, (besides, I don't want to interrupt your day schedule) but if you get a chance in the day or two, can you get me the GPS coords for Poluted waters and 27 Palms? I think those are the only two stops of the run I don't have. Reply here, or you've got my nextel # (Danny has it if you don't)
I'm putting together a Commemorative version of my Lake K map specifically for this event. Quick as you can, because I need some time to forward sample images to you &/or Danny for approval, then get a bunch printed, and he's going to need time to get some of them framed.

This is definately one that will be with us for years to come. Danny, Dave, let us know if there is anything we can do to help with this event.
Mood, can't wait to see one of them "commemorative" maps.
BF is right about the Shriner's. As a nurse I have seen families in great tumoil over sick and injured loved ones. The Shriner's group provide not only monetary support but great emotional support as well. That in my world can be priceless.
