Some more thoughts on the Monday meeting in Gainesville...

1. The proposed plan seems like it has the potential to become a broad brush that could paint a lot of people into a bunch of corners. It's hard to see how to scientifically include everything from skiing to septic tanks into one document. I'm worried a lot of items will get caught up that are too complicated to put in the apples-and-oranges-both basket.

2. As usual a lot of non-science seems to be edging in. For example, there's a provision to control sound and speed by limiting horsepower. Horsepower has nothing to do with sound OR speed...it's a measure of pulling power or torque. Speed is a function of power transfer to overcome inertia. To get more speed out of a small engine, you have to increase rpm, which results in a higher, more intense decibel range. A big Harley has a pleasant lub-lub-lub sound. An over-revved turbo-charged dirt bike squeals to the point of actual pain because it's being pushed to the upper rev limits.A big engine operating inside its capacity is a lot quieter than a little one being pushed too hard.
