Alternator

Just curious what you guys think on why I can't get my alternator to charge. I have a brand new alternator, new plug, new wires, new exciter light wired in-line with the alternator, and can't get nothing out of the alternator. I have even taken it back to the store and had it tested to see if the alternator was bad and it check out ok. I am stumped on it. Should I change the in-line exiter light or remove the exciter light and wire to something else? Any info would be great. It's a two wire alternator for a gm 350.

i've heard that sometimes when they heat up the diodes will go out. but, when they cool down they work again.....just an idea.

I think the rotation thing only matterred on generators cowboy, you are showin your age on that one LOL. I know i am probably wrong as usual but that is what i have been told and I took my alternator from the upper left side to the lower right side which should have changed the direction and it made volts either way but maybe I was just lucky, I always say if you gotta choose between lucky and good always go for lucky.

 Actually that would not change direction either! to change direction of the alternator you would have to mount the alternator where the radiator should be., pully faceing the motor. Or drive the alternator with the top side of the belt. Either way an alternator does not care which direction it turns.

Yup,
Shoulda just stayed quiet.

Oh well.
I knew the one wire alternator I have did'nt care, but I did not know if that was true of the ones that have to use a field wire.

I do still have some of those old generators in use around here though!
