to polish the sides or repaint, whats the up keep on polished sides,what about if I go in the salt water, thanks for the help
 
If it already has paint,you better stick with it.To strip it down and polish it out,you better get ready for a lot of work or a whole lot of $$$$$.
 
Depending on the size and/or design of your hull will dictate the amount of time. A friend of mine was just told me he had an employee repolish his aluminum and he said it took 2 days with a buffer and metal polish. his was a 14' diamondback cutdown. I know with chrome you can repolish it with very very fine grit sand paper then go over it with a polish to seal it. I am almost positive you can do the same with aluminum.
As far as upkeep and effect from saltwater someone else will have to answer that for you.
