Anyone know why the freezer would be working, the light in the refrigerator working, but the refrigerator is not cooling? Do they have seperate condensors?
Check to see if the little fan blade has fallen off. You can normally get to it, from inside the freezer part on the back.. I am not the maytag repair man, but this was the cause of what happen to my frig. The old lady would pack it full and when she would force the door closed, it would stop the fan or make it fall off.
Here is what I figured out........when the freezer door is opened, cold air blows out in the in the refrigerator.....when the freezer shuts, the cold air stops blowing??
there is a damper that lets air in from the freezer to the frig see if it is not closed also see if there some ice build-up on evap coil in freezer could be a defrost problem.
ok amana is like whirlpool. The Thermostats go out sometimes or the condensor relays. If the condensor is hot it maybe the condensor but chances are iit could be just a relay. I have had them go out on a couple whirlpool fridges. Downside is very few repair guys stock those and they usually have to be ordered for your fridge. Make sure you call a reputable repair man cause when mine went out on my side by side at home I used a friends "friend" who was a repair man and he swore it was the condensor. I knew he was wrong thankfully I trusted my instincts and called a real repair man and saved myself 100's of dollars on parts I didn't need.
Is the freezer packed full? Is anything putting pressure on the back wall where the fan is? That fan forces cold air from the freezer into the fridge. Check to make sure the air tunnel from the freezer to the frig is open.
Sounds like the compressor is working okay, you have Cold air and Ice in the top.
I am trying to get a hold of one of my buddies that makes a livin as appliance repair man. But, he has not called back, as of this time.
I will see what I can do.
go get the cooler fill it up with ice then put in the perishables, when this is done unplug the fridge from the wall carry out to the curb unbolt the door then drive to your local appliance store take the wife with ya this is where she may have some input to pick a new one ! Be sure to get one with a good amount of beer space (hint) good luck on that hunt, Hey rich in all serious good luck fixin the old one
Back to original topic. Modern day refrigerators only have ONE compressor and One condensor and ONE evaporator. They work off of a t-stat located in the freezer compartment and the cooler section works by the use of a damper which allows the COLD air in the freezer compartment to cool the medium temp compartment. Usually if the freezer section is working ok, the cooler section should work as well. Try adjusting the cooler section control to make it cooler. I think Budget ment there are two evaporators not condensors which i doubt due to no way to charge a system and isolate just one section at a time during it's normal operation. I would look at the controller that operates the cooler section. Might just have knocked the lever or knob to a warmer position causing the problem.
ONE HOLE SAW ! DRILL HOLE BETWEEN FREEZER AND FRIG ! PARTLY COVER THE HOLE WITH DUCT TAPE TO GET 38 DEGREES OR ADJUST ACCORDING TO TASTE , FOR BEER !IF YOU CANT BE HANDSOME BE HANDY ! MY BUDDIES BELIEVE ME !
I spilled water in the freezer once and it flowed down into the damper between the freezer and refer , froze , and messed up the airflow---- unplugged it, to thaw it out and it was all better.
after unplugging it for a few hrs yesterday, it started working again.....don't know if it was froze up because no water dripped from it?? But it is working, so no BEER is safe.
Thanks for all the replies...
Rich
