ANOTHER F.N.G. !

Hello everyone!
Im new to this site, and new to airboats.
My Boss just bought a 2003 Diamondback 3 seat'r with a Lycoming 260 HP engine. 85 hrs on the clock.
My job is to make sure all his toys are ready to rock whenever he wants to go.

Bein as I only had one day to check the boat over before we took it out , I checked all the control cables, battery, and a careful inspection to make sure all the fasteners were where they are supposed to be, did an oil change using Shell 50w Aero, and filled her up with some Avgas.
When we got back, I installed a new set of spark plugs. The other guy I work with told me his brother never changes his spark plugs. (If it works, dont fx it).
To each his own.
I got to drive this beastie for about a half an hour, and I am totally thrilled with this machine.

I will keep reading y'alls posts to try to learn as much as I can, but fer now, is there anything else that would need immediate attention?

Al :D

Also, lake O, and?

He's doing some looking around for hunting and fishing spots.
Hes got a hammock north of Gainesville near the Santa Fe river, so where ever he tells me to tow it to, I guess.

Ill be studyin the "where we ride" forum when I have some time.

Somebody say sumthin about re-torque?
Dont have any specs yet, anybody know where I can order a manual from?
Aircraft spruce, mebbe?

Make it a common practice to check everything over after and before each time out.Exhaust bolts are hell on props  If you can put a wrench on it tighten it.

Hey Airupthere,

I think y'all should put ol Brewster on the payroll QUICK.
That would be some of the best airboat'in money you could ever spend if you could afford it.

There he goes:

I bet he'd gettcha into more airboating adventures then you could imagine!
I would also recommend y'all wear those Velcro back support lifting braces, while in his company.

Perhaps those would help keep your sides from splitting, while constantly laughing too hard.

Yup,
Just a personal character reference for y'all.
Hire him quick, before he changes his mind!

hahaha, love the picture. i had a buddy get drunk and decide to do a beer run down the middle of the road after his ol' lady took the keys to his truck. thank God for push button ignitions! hahaha. funny thing was... he can park that airboat between the parking space lines better than he can his truck. yall should have seen the look on the ha-beeb's face behind the counter. great times!

Thanks everyone for their advice!
I would love to hire Brewster, but that'd put me outta a job. I gotta eat too! :).

Loved the Ha Beeb story of the guy drivin his Airboat to the beer store.
T.F,M.!

Y'all be good, or be good at it!

Airupthere,

If you have polymer on the bottom of the boat, here's something else to look for on a regular basis! Can be a nasty thing when it cuts loose!

AIRUPTHERE,

Welcome aboard. You might get the award as "Luckiest Airboater Out There"

You didn't say if his machine has an air filter or not. If it doesn't, you might want to consider a modern cone filter...with it as dry as it is, plenty of coarse sand can make its way into the carb throat....not good for any engine and really not good for an aircraft.

If that package was bought complete from Diamondback, there's an excellent chance that Lycoming 0540 / 260 is a Jurnigan engine (look for an JEP ID plate). Very hard to beat that combo.

Big D,
I dont know if its a Jurnigan, I tried to locate an engine ID plate for the Insurance Co. and I could only find some numbers stamped on top of the engine cases.
I dont have the numbers with me, but after my morning project, Im going to do some more work down at the shop, and Ill get the numbers off the cases and post them here. Maybe someone can ID the mill from Diamondback, who knows.

The engine does have an aircleaner, but I am replacing it with somthing better.
Can you recommend a supplier?
Thanks,
Al
