Any one recommend a good aluminim Mini air boat plan?

was going to use a jon boat, but found out not wide enough.

So, I am not to crazzy about building a wood/fiber hull.

Any one recomend a DIY aluminum hull? staying in the mini boat small theme.

Actually if your building I wouldn't necessaraly shy away from wood ply. They generally figure 25 lbs/sheet for each 1/4" ply. that means you can have a inch thick hull before you get to the weight if 3/16" aluminum and it's lighter than water. I built .105" steel and a knife edge rock will crease the hull all the way back and I dont think 3/16" aluminum would be too much different and while that would be overkill for a mini don't lose sight of the benifits of the material for the type of ground your running. If it's all water and grass .060 aluminum would be cool! But $15.00/sheet ply should work too!

There are some pretty impressive sounding hulls in this section for what I would think a really reasonable price?

If you make the boat too small, it sets to deep in the water and don't take off as good. The hull is the most important part of the complete boat. We sell the RD2 aluminum hull that is 11 ft 8 inches long and 7 ft wide. When we put a 35 HP briggs on one, it runs 35 miles per hr. The hull weighs in at 223 lbs and on sets a couple of inches in the water. We sell the RD2 hull for $ 2195.00.
Thanks, Chuck

I have a couple of deckovers, and I have been putting 100-200hp lycoming/continentals on them, they are all 10x6, and ride like a dream, I beat them up pretty bad running land/woods, so I'am building a new one with thicker bottom, and more stringers but I have one with a o-200 on it with 4 stringers, and a thin deck that weighs in at 200lbs with slick bottom and would be perfect for a smaller motor. you can get your measurements from if you want. I live in Geneva.

get in touch with country or stan,he builds a mini with a kohler engine, frogs all night on i believe 4 galls. of gas. and runs over 30 mph. im sure theres more out there but we were talking about um this weekend.good luck. jr

you want a hull or a whole mini boat just give me a call. 941-345-5726 I got the so called rd2 aluminium hull for 1800 I also have one with slick bottom and one with polymer. I have trailers for them engines for them belt drives and props what ever you may need including a full set of riggin seats lights whatever.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I would like to get a used hull or even new.. But I live in Minnesota so it would be $$$$$$$$$$$ to get the hull up here.

As fare as a wood boat hull and recomendations???

You have any pics of the hull??

That is one of them with a vw on it

40 consistent with the vw 25 consistent with the briggs I have a friend putting a 180 lycoming on one it will be faster. Speed is secondary to the stability factor. I have been involved in a serious collision involving two of these hulls and neither on of them sunk. There is a lot more to consider than speed ... if you want speed there are hulls for that as well.

Yep send me an email address in a pm and I will send them to you. If you want one delivered you buy the fuel and expenses and a little for my time and I will hook you up.

any one in mind?? I can build a wood hull no problem. My concern is that a big ole log or something will just crush it.

I thought this was a pretty good idea. I like it.

The yellow boat was a jon Boat that was made out of 2 split one down the middle and spliced the center of the other in to it. Worked pretty good foamed the bottom and put poly on it to get rid of the ribs.
I Got this from another thread. If I lived somewhere where there was no way to get a real airboat hull, I think I would try to build one like this. For a safe stable boat you need the width.

I have one thats 11x7 its pretty light. .100 on the bottom and .060 on the sides. I consider it a mini hull. but since it has a 160HP Lycoming on it I guess its not a real mini. But it sure is fun. Its a mini to me, it measures smaller than some mini's but it will run where the big boys run.

What’s the price and can you send pictures.

Cracka243 this is a 13 year old thread and 2 of the contributors have passed.

Yeah when we lost John, (Cntry) we lost a legend for sure.
Never got a chance to see he and Stans boats they were building, but thanks for reviving the thread so I could catch up.
