Anybody going to buy that 9 cyl. radial in the classied?

FP, there is no reason to lay awake tonight thinking about "what if" ..... for one thing you and I together couldn't afford the fuel to run it, and
the other thing is that repair parts are getting insanely expensive.

Sexy though, aren't they ?

i saw a 9 on a huge hull like 20 footer in the big bend area a few yrs ago. i here they used to run alot of the 7s on mullet/dope hauling boats years ago

There's a seven that hangs on a boat lift over on the canal to the marina at Steinhatchee ... it looks like it doesn't get used much but
I've often thought that I need to stop there sometime and just ask em if I can look at it. :)

Yes they are!
Nothing sounds quite like a big radial starting up, then again nothing smokes like one either.
Thinking of all the really cool stuff we can't afford or won't do, keeps the brain happy.

Nothing like ordering a part then having to say HOW MUCH!!

Radial engines: If it ain't burning oil, it's out! :P

I flew behind an R-1340 one Summer on a crop duster. When it first fired up in the morning just the sound of it was all the adrenaline
a man should ever need. I love them radials.

I remember My dad correcting an Air Force Officer once when some Major said something derrogatory about them damned C47s dripping oil everywhere and dad simply replied. "Major, my good man, Radials do NOT LEAK oil. They are simply marking their territory !"

Scotty

The guys that used to spray for us back on the farm had a Grummen
AgCat with a nine cyl, I think they said it was about 450 hp.

There ain't noth'in like the sound of a Radial in the marsh.

When they Crank, or when the throttle gits called on.
It's AWESOME!
Our old man had a radial for years. One of his running Buds had one also, but it had an inertia starter on it for a while. Can't even tell how cool that was when it cranked up.

It's a sight to see and hear when one of those roundy-poundy's git's ground on in the woods. Especially at night! Fire, Smoke, and Carbon sparks flying out the exhaust!
yee haw.

Even the Skunkapes stop what they are doing, look at each other and say:
"wow!"
"Did you hear that?" Whatdaheck was that?" "There's something out there."
"We better stay where we at tonight!"

The Ag-Cat had a Pratt & Whitney R-985 which is 450 hp.

If I were going to build a radial engined airboat, I would use this engine. It has everything going for it including being geared and the same rotation as a geared auto engine, making big props available. It will also take the throttle jockeying.

that would be the sister engine to the 2 that i have , the boat is 23 ftx 11 with a 3/4
bottom and will haul 18 people is up around yankee town last i knew of
and whats a little fuel only burns about 25 gal an hour
come on I know somebody here just gota have the BIGGEST motor :P :P ]

The dry weight is 560, so with an oil tank and cooler and oil plus exhaust it would probably be at least 650.
