Avgas rusting fuel/water separator?

Been running a Fuel/water separator/filter on a 540 boat that only gets Avgas. I had the carb rebuilt recently and pulled the fuel filter off and noticed it was rusted inside (year old). Never saw any water inside the clear bowl at the bottom. That was three months ago, put a new filter on it and again, never have seen any water at the bottom of the bowl. Just replaced the filter again, this time only three months old, and still it was starting to rust. Is it possible I have water in the system that just isn’t showing up at the bottom of the bowl...or is there something in Avgas that causes the filters to rust? The boat has always been stored inside its whole life, I can’t remember the last time the boat got rained on.EFE1CE01-B690-471D-8B9F-E91D42714848.jpeg

Eric that filter looks great as mentioned. Those filters are made from a carbon steel, the least bit of water will leave its mark in the form of rust.

they supposedly make a aluminum filter instead of the steel one. ive had alot of problems from that filter setup. i done away with it completely on one of my boats & went straight inline.
