Back after 50 years

First of all thanx to all for one of the verybest websites we've seen.
Have been reading reading & reading.

Somewhere in my life at abt age 14 or 15 (1953 or 54) my friend & I went down near Cypress Gardens fishing with one of my dad's friends on 2 or 3 occasions. The boat the man used to get out where they wanted togo was an airboat with a big propeller is all I remember abt it.

Needless to say these rides had a lasting effect on my entire life.
It was from there that I decided to become a commercial pilot & later flew for several corporations for a total of abt 3500 hrs of pro time.in single, multi & private helicopter.

Don't want to bore you but at 66 maybe the time has come to persue this thing Ive wanted for 50 years. But will have many questions before the first launch.

Thanx, Gben

Gben,

WARNING - Airboat Fever is incurable. There is no known antedote and no effective treatment except regular use and continued exposure.

Heck yeah. I'll agree to that. Had the sickness now for 25 years. On boat number 4, and wife #3. More fun than any wheeled vehicle. If you have the time, Gbenzx, study up on it before you commit and buy one. Aircraft engine is the way to go probably for you given your aircraft background. My wallet can't hang with aircraft so I run a small block Chevy engine. Happy Hunting

I got one to hunt duck and now spend more time just playing around with them. They do get in your blood, try a few before you buy. :D :D

Its probably the most fun you can have with your clothes on... it is more addictive than cocaine and almost as expensive. This last go round cost me a couple of girlfriends and a buttload of money but it was a good thang, a southern thang they say. So saddle up ride a few differnet ones before you buy one and most important have fun

Thanx Guys, you're a trip :)

This will most likely go into a tug of war with our son Buddy who is a regular boat captain but also has that shot of wildness I used to have. Used to have!

It will iron out at who pays how much. If I have to pay 75% I can get more of what I want & vise verse of course. For my part I just enjoy riden & fishen the small streams & backwoods & don't care much bout big water stuff.
We do the Ocala forest with our Kubota rtv & like the Oklawaha & Rodman very much as well as the Okeefenokee Swamp.

On the other side of me nothing would suit me better than mounting up an Allison 250B turbine on a 15ft or so but gph would prob limit my usefullness to abt 20mins a week. Been watching ebay tho & there are a couple other possibilities.

American sent us email ad today & we are still laughing at those pics. Ya'll seen that boat going over the logs like a caterpillar tractor? Or the balance acts on a (a) rock? And not least the frozen guy driven the Icy Rider?

Oh well, we'll see

Thanx Guys, Gben :)

Gbenzx, Me and some buddies of mine have a hunt camp up there on the Oklawaha, just about half way between the clay pit and Tobacco Patch Landing. Great airboating up there as long as you are not trying to run the channel, water to deep. We put in at the landing and stay at the camp. Awesome fishing. Was up there last weekend and the water authority has pulled the level down again, good weekend though, spent most of the time at the spring with the kids. Have you decided on getting a boat yet? Aircraft or auto motor?

Glad you liked the pictures Gben, I love showing pictures somewhere other than just in the swamp. I sold 7 or 8 boats in Africa last year and I'm working on getting some of those pictures with the wildlife in the back ground. People are airboating everywhere. I love it. I'll post some more on Southern Airboat when they come in.

Jim Farley,

Hear you abt the camp & haven't been that way in years.
Haven't had a chance togo anywhere other than NC mtns for months.
Guess the lady bugs are in full swing by now down there, almost as bad as love bugs for a while.

No, no decision & prob not for months but if we get the bug bad enough may look for a little shorty of some kind that may be reasonable. If you can imagine son Buddy wants one he can deer hunt with & still go 50mi off shore.
I want one to deer hunt with & paddle the creeks & crannies. Likewe're talking tonight all this has tobe narrowed down sense no boat in the world is ever going todo itall. Also this afternoon he comes up with, Don't they make one that will carry the Bota? Oh no I said you're taking 2000lbs!

Yeah Farley,

Good stuff & remarkable creators :(

Thanx, Gben
