Begining a new boat.

Whitebear

Silent Prop
R. I. P.
Well I finally made a deal for a boat that was taken apart for rerigging. I bought a 11.5' 3/4 decover with NEW polymer, with a low time IO-360 and a new prop and good enough trailer.

Don't know the name brand of the hull yet, should shortly.

Currently the IO-360 has a carb on it cause thay said it runs better with the carb than it does with the injection. Guess Ill have a look at the injection when I get home. I have heard this here on the forum before. It has 2 NEW REBUILT mags, not sure whose or whick kind yet. Engine has 250 hours since Major on it, and runs like a top, very strong.

Ill have more on the goodies as it is taken to the house and dropped off. Ill have pals take some photos for me and Ill post them to show where the thing begins.

Building a boat is always a project that is really never finished. My plans are to either re rig the boat with all new rigging or to buy a new hull and just use the parts that work for the new rigging.

Buying an existing boat saves a LOT of running to get this and that since all the little stuff is already there.

Im anxious to get going in Jan. For now Im trying to get things arranged so that I can have a path to follow that I have already worked out in advance.

Gotta make a decision on the hull this month so if I need a new one I can have it waiting when I get home.

I been looking and waiting for a year to find a right deal for me, and it finally showed up.

More as it happens.

Scotty, if you decide on another hull, there's a guy here that makes fiberglass hulls and he makes a nice little Laser clone that runs great and would be a perfect match to your 360

I know you're kinda set on the PB hulls, but these things run so great on the hill and in deep water too.

Thanks Red, I still haven't ruled out a new Hammant like Ricks either. Time will tell. I need to have my boy dig into the hull and see what the heck it is before I make any decisions.

Time will tell

Scotty

Yeah, Hammants are badass. I know CChardt's is the bomb. Haven't seen Ricks yet though

Switching from my old hull to my new Hammant was the best thing I've done for my boat YET!!! Drives like a dream and handles GREAT like going from a moped to a ferrari. Just my 2 cents worth.

Bear, give you're 'new' hull a chance. If it's not what you wanted then you can make the change. I've never owned a Hammant, but I would be proud to.

You're gettin to be a short timer over there. :)

Awesome!
Glad you gotcha one Scotty!

I hear ya on the used boat thing.
It's tought o beat the used boat prices right now, unless you just have to get a very specialized rig.

Congrats!
Standing by for photo's like all the rest.....

I just got my new 13 Foot Lazer airboat home and I'm cutting the rigging down so I can sit in the boat instead of six feet above it. It has the dog leg steering and I'm thinking of installing a teleflex cable. My other boat has a cable that extends 8 inches but the cable I want to use only extends 6 inches. The dogleg pushes 8 inches also.

Do you think that 6 inches of travel is enough?

Those cables need to be mounted to the tab as close to the rudder as possible to give you more rudder movement. I'm not a big fan of them.

Teleflex has another style of cable that we use here with some modification and it gives about 8.5" of travel and is much freer operating than most of the 6" travel ones.

Try the dog leg, you might like it.

The shorter the cable throw, the closer the mount will
have to be to the fulcrum of the rudder to get the same
degree of rudder movement meaning less leverage and
harder steering.

Talked with the kid last night. He says the hull has round sides like a PB hull but he thinks its a Thurman hill. Pictures are still a day or two away so its still up in the air for now as to what it is I bought. Were doing the title thing tomorrow night so Ill see what the title says.

Scotty

Scotty, Did they include the fuel injection components with it even though it has a carb? Sounds like a nice boat.

Dave

Sure did Dave, got the FI and the Carb. I've heard that the Carb runs better, but I cant figure that. With a carb its a 180 and with the FI its a 200. Something just seems like the FI isnt set up right or something. Guess time will tell, I'm going to have them both to tinker with so maybe I can answer some of my own questions about this.

Scotty

Ok I got pictures of the hull. Its a Foley built hull. Looks for all the world like a PB hull.

The engine has flat valve covers so I understand that indicates its an angle valve motor. Does angle valve mean its a hemi head???

I got this hull sold if I don't want it. I "think" im going to let it go and Chris (CC) if you see this see if the quote for the new Hammant ultralight 12' is still good and whats the delivery times if we order right away? I want the ultralight but not with cut down sides.

More as it developes.

Scotty

put it together and run it. thats a fun hull then run it some more then take that fuel injectson and put it on and run it some more you aint ever going too stop tinkering with it thats whats its allll aboat. :p have too friends with that hull with 220s one full deck and one open road both and fun as hell . i have 13.5 stossel with 220 little big id snatch that hull up in a minute i live in palmbay too see ya on the mash sum day

I know pictures like this don't tell the whole story. Anybody else recognise the hull type?

Hogenstein tell me more about this hull, I never seen or heard of it. Looks like a PB kinda and a lot like some of the old Charlie Jones hulls. Maybe your talking good sense about put it together and run it. I may do just that in the interim.

My boy knows this boat and says its a natural borne hill runner. Hope its a good frogger or its a gone kitty.

FYI Bear manufacturing did change their hull style when DC Matthews bought the company. I can't remember totally what they look like other than that they were wider and decked over. DC had a hard time convincing people that wider was better to displace the weight to run on dry land. Everybody back then thought narrow was the way to go.

Not definite but could be... Maybe somebody else could confirm. Also a front view would help too.
