Best design for running on ice?

Newbie from the north here. I am presently looking at purchasing a Clark's 14' Bandit fiberlass hull w/ polymere. 95 vintage with a direct drive 502 caddy (76?). Boat appears in decent shape but motor is down 20 lbs. on 1 cylinder. I haven't tried it in the water yet but anything to look for with this design? How about suitability for thin, broken ice, open water use in our part of the world? Any northern sites that deal with this?

An Ice class boat must be specifically designed for that usage if you expect it to last. Please check out http://www.americanairboats.com
We have boat running in Canada and Alaska running ice. You can send me a private message at airboatcapt2@aol.com with your phone number and I would be glad to give you a call to discuss specs with you on a boat that will do what you need. I also have a Ice class boat that is almost brand new with a Used boat price that I have not put up for sale yet.
For Ice class boats we upgrade from 3/16 aluminum bottom to the 1/4 thick aluminum bottom with 3/8 diamondslide poly on bottom and sides.
You side Height wil be a min. 30" and very deep transom for safety.
The t-bars in the bottom of the boat will be 9 2x2x3/8 t-bars with
2.5"x3" I beams as mid ship braces. You can reach the shop toll free at 1-800-241-6390 or at 409-883-7725 or my cell phone at 409-920-0716. Even if you don't buy my boat I will still help you spec out a boat that will work for your needs.
Good Luck,
