Got caught in a sudden downpour on tuesday and had to run back to the ramp thru heavy rain. Since then, the boat acts like its running on one mag half the time. Usually idles at 650 rpm and runs at 2500 at WOT. Now it'll suddenly run rough, (barely) idle at 300 and run at 1500 WOT. Then it'll go back to normal.
Engine is a lycoming o360 with low compression pistons, 350 hours since rebuild, and new ngk plugs about 20 hours ago. Has always run great on 93 octane.
So far ive tried taking out the plastic plug on the side of the mags and blowing 120° air into them with a heat gun to try and dry em out, checked the connections to the plugs, and bypassing the mag switches, with no luck.
I dont know how to time the mags so I'm a little hesitant about fiddling with them too much without guidance. Theres a plate on the front of the mags where the plug wires come out, can that be removed without effecting the timing?
Any hints would be appreciated, I'd like to get this figured out before breaking down and taking it to the mechanic.
