The times were sooo much simpler then. I'm only 42, and only caught a glimpse of those days, but I sure do miss them. I could look at those pictures everyday. Thanks for sharing.

Cal Stone wrote a book called "40 years in the Everglades"

It's a great read about his exceptional exploits "walking in the glades"
He walked the Glades for a couple decades before he got a buggy.

On his last great walk, we walk in with a friend off the Tamiami Trail, and five days later walked out onto 27 in Morehaven.

Cal Stone was one of the first to propose the Big Cypress should be a preserve, so that this way of life would not be lost to developers, and development.

Here is another great story link from Steve's Big Cypress Page:

A New Road to Lost Dog Prairie.

I got lost in that website. I was in there about 4 hours and still couldn't get enough cool stories, pix and history.

I am in the process of reading the book A Land remembered By Patrick D Smith. It is a great book. Anybody interested in the Old Florida should read it.

Thanks Cowboy. That is a bunch of great history of true Gladesman culture. Talk about some tough resilient folk rompin through the Glades with what is considered primitive equipment. They sure had the right stuff...guts of steel...and no Deep Woods Off.
