Man rescued from Sandusky River

By MATT SANCTIS
Staff Writer

Ballville Township firefighters sped against the muddy, rushing currents of the Sandusky River Friday night in an airboat to rescue a Fremont man as he clung to low-hanging branches on an island in the water.

Michael Adkins, of West State Street, grabbed a branch on an island in the river just below the River Cliff Golf Course on Tiffin Street after his Waverunner flipped in the water.

Ballville firefighters set up along the riverbank as firefighters Brian Edwards and...

...Pep Crowell, another volunteer firefighter who assisted at the scene, credited the airboat for the quick rescue. She said it may have taken longer to perform the rescue without the vehicle, a flat-surfaced boat with a huge propellor in back.

"Sometimes people complain about the sound of the airboat, but that's the best sound in the world," she said....

Here's the rest: http://www.centralohio.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/BC/20060624/NEWS01/606240302/1002&template=BC

Thanks Brian!

I would have to AGREE with that statement!

Good Job Brian!

Anybody want to listen to some mumbling county council idiot now about the value of airboats? Folks, we have every right to be here. Refuse to lose.

Way to go, Brian 8) . Very well done.

Way to go wingman that brings back memorys of when I got those two comcast workers of the river down here except mine was at night but from what I saw in the picture the condition of the river looked the same scary they never seem to make it easy on us Rescuer's do they, I have not figured out why folks have to go play on watercraft in the worst conditions the two guys I plucked out of the river were on a water craft also trying to free a tree from a cable go figure nice going Brian I guess between the two of us we are really making a name for the use of Airboats for Rescue work I think the country is slowly starting to see our value nice job buddy.

Aw Shucks guys (as I schuffle my feet, kick a pebble and look embarased), you're making me blush... Thanks for the kudos.
The entire rescue (once the airboat arrived on scene) took LESS than 2 minutes, but it was a very interesting 2 minutes... At one point, I even had to back the airboat up between a few bent over trees.
Water velocity was over 20 feet per second. The clowns riding the waverunners had no concept of what they got into till things went wrong....

SANDUSKY COUNTY SEARCH AND RESCUE, WE DEFY NATURAL SELECTION !! :D

Brian

Hey Sniper & Brian - I'd like to work on a new header image (top of all pages) for the site showing rescue boats in action. If ya'll have any of those kind of pics, I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Rick

Always great to hear about stuff like this.
WAY TO GO BRIAN
Do guys like you and Sniper ever just take the boats out for a joy ride? Or is pulling somebody out of a raging river your idea of fun?
you guys make "Search and Rescue" more like "hide and seek"

Hay Randy

I did come go ride with you and your son in 3a if you remember but I think Brian and I do like puling folks out of raging rivers it keeps us on our toes and It's not a job it's an adventure and Rick I will get you some pictures I took in New Orleans of Airboats doing rescues Brian and I and the rest of the crews stayed real busy getting folks out.
