Bimini Tops

Have any of you out there put a Bimini Top on your boat? I'm thinking about putting one on my boat and wondered if there was any pro's or con's to doing this. Are there any branch reccommendations, or fabric types that are better than others?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've been running mine for 4 years . It folds back and is made of sunbrella material and stainless steel rigging it has served me well. The way we designed it for our needs prevented it from being a fold forward and down on the front deck. I wouldn't go with any plastic connecters or fittings only heavy aluminum or better yet stainless steel rigging It's realy nice on a hot sunny day to sit in the shade and spectate .the last two weekends of running cntry tried to set up his boat umbrella and the wind kept turnig it inside out and it wound up breaking under the stress biminis made right are ALRIGHT.

Shadowgrass,

After havin' some cancerous stuff cut off my noggin a few years back I love my bimini top!

Like stan said no plastic connectors, sumbrella material cause it stays waterproff, and stainless is the way to go, (stans not tellin ya' everything though..if you got the funds, get a "white trash condo" made like his)!

Got my "pontoon boat" material from e-bay and my 1 and 1/4 square frame from the side of the road.

Also take your time if you're doin the install to get the height right,(I wound up lowering mine 2 times to get it "just right") :toothy2:

WHITE TRASH CONDO II comin soon on my new hull. I am taking it up a notch though and am adding central air conditioning and electricity. I may need a big block. oh FELBER, LOL. umbrellas are fine in the still of the summer but on windy days they do not work so good.

Say the word Country......Hell I can make a pontoon boat run the hill. ;)

Where did you buy yours? I need one for my boat and want one that will last i.e. stainless and Sunbrella. I would like it to fold forward and flat though. Charles

A 24' pontoon boat .... sittin' on the Ridge. 672 cu.in. Felber BB on steroids, gearbox, HUGE four blade prop. Room for 6 people, a gay pit bull, 4 coolers, a Texas size grill, and enough room left over for 10 cases of back-up lashed to the deck.

Kinda gives ya' chills, don't it ?

Charles the only one built so far is STANS so pm him and ask where he had it done he will tell you. Mine will be built locally here probably I have a top maker who owes me a favor for a rush job i did for him, time to collect.

Felber we may just do it man. i collected some more favors on this engine I beleive it will be adequate My hull should be fairly free in the water like my current boat is. The actual pounds per sq inch should be less than they are now so ground runnin should be ok except for the size of the darn thing, probably gotta give up runnin the tight trails. I shrunk it a little it is 15x8 with a 2' grass rake don't sound bad if you say it fast huh, but i have been pushin the limits on trail ridin with the one I have now in my opinion. But time will tell.

Feather a 24' pontoon on the ridge, I don't know if I could drive that one up there even if it had enough power. there aint a lot that scares me but that might do the trick, but man if we could do it what a party barge it would be LOL

We had some 26'x12' sleds in seismic that had 3 BBC engines, and would climb amything you could get in front of them, even power load on a simi & lowboy. Were a double barrel handfull to run though, 3 throttles and 5 rudders. Yahoo !!!!!

Basket I keep seeing post's about your dog. You did change the collar didn't you  I bet now that he's grown they won't say that to his face

I picked one up at West, just order the right width, mine lays foward, you have to add a an extension on both uprights to get the height and also make the tie offs longer. I use it sometimes but hard to beat an unbrella for the weight factor..
