Bleed down lifters?

How do I bleed down the lifters on my 470 GPU? I want to bleed them so I can match the pushrods to fit better (tight&loose). They are still in the block and don't know if I can remove them from the outside. Thanks Rick,

You cannot remove GPU lifters from outside the motor, they are nail head shaped and can only be removed by splitting the cases. you need to pull the valve cover, rocker arms, pushrods and tubes. I also like to pull the lifter blocks off to get som more room and then you can see the lifters. You can bleed them down by pushing a thin piece of wire into the hole in the center of the lifter, opening the check valve in the lifter, and pumping the oil out. If you can't get the lifter to bleed down you may need to remove the wire retainer and disassemble the lifter to clean the plunger out, sometimes they can get stuck.

Hey Larry,
Do you know what the clearance on these 0-470 cylinders should be?
I was told that a problem after getting everything reasembled just to find that the cylinders still wouldn't make clearance might be because of using a re-barreled cylinder and that I should get a new one. any input on this?
