Boiled Peanuts .....

Hey y'all ..... I just found a trick that might hold us through hard times. I was over at Winn Dixie the other day and they had their Thrifty Maid brand of canned boiled peanuts on sale. I bought five cases.

The good part is that they're not completely done like most of us like em, so you can put several cans in a pot, season em like you like em, and then boil them until they're done to your likin.

I've got a pot on the stove right now with five cans in it and a little Old Bay and salt to boot. :)

Or you can bring them on your boat for a snack if you dont have time to make the real thing. Those canned ones really arent too bad.

Using the Old Bay is a good start, it'll give em some good flavor, and if you want them a little warmer, get a can of jalapenos and put them in cut up along with the juice. Ya just couldn't stand it, could you? You got to talking about them and just had to go find something.LOL Good luck with them. Later Cajun

Cajun, here's what I've found out about these Winn Dixie canned goobers ....
They must be pressure cooked or something before they're canned because they soak up a lot of water fast when you start to boil em.
That's good because that makes em take up the seasoning. I had to boil this first batch I tried at least a couple of hours before they were as tender as I like em.

Turned out OK though ...... :) . Not too bad at all.

You looked good today, it was good to see Ole Farts I mean Ole Friends. Sold a boat today so that was a good thing. Glad to be back home where its warm and dry, I'm gettin too old for these wet cold days. I'll keep that in mind about the goobers. Take care friend. See ya at another time. Later

Very good seeing you again, too. And it was nice to see your Lady smiling too.
Tell her I'll bring her that sleeping bag she wanted to the swap meet next year :) .

She says she appreciates it unless its 85 degrees next time. LOL Thanx bud. Later

A family favorite of mine is to let them cool in the boiled water and your favorite seasoning, lay them out on pizza pans and toss them in a hot smoker for around an hour. Just have alot lot of smoke in the smoker when you do it.

Ffcracker, that's one I'd never heard about but I'll bet they're tasty. I'll try em some time.

Olf Art,
your up here around my neck of the woods, Ill pm ya before the next batch, probably be some smoked pig invlolved also.

For some reason the p-nut crop is late in my area.....As far as recipes and cooking them, I have tried a guber bout any way a cracker can try em....My favorite way is to cook them in an old black kettle or pot. I have an old pot that goes to my old fish cooker, and I slow cook them outside over an oak fire...I don't do them all like that, just mainly when I have the time. Something different to try, Get pack of meatloaf seasoning and mix that with your salt and whatever seasoning you choose and boil them down.....

C1, I'm kinda like that too .... I've never met a goober, tater, or bean I didn't like. Some are
better than others, but they're all OK by me.

An old friend of mine used to say that he was probably well into his teens before he figured out
that pintos, collards, cornbread, and sweet tea weren't the four major food groups. :)

there is 2 places north of ocala, waldron and silar. they are the king pins of the green pnut market, if ya get them in a grocery store they probally come from one of them. when cooking pnuts boil till they're tender then soak. longer the better.

Waldron there at Citra has always been fair with me, and their peanuts are usually clean and good quality.

Man, I'm gettin' hungry for a pot! I agree, Ford. Ya gotta let em soak after to get the best flavor.

Got a pot on the stove right now. The price of peanut butter has jumped bigtime in the last couple of weeks. Anybody know what wholesale is on 'em right now?
