BOWFISHING LIGHTS

Anyone bowfish? If so, does anyone have a good setup for lights with a generator. Lots of people run halogens but I was wondering how metal halide would work overhead on a pole that could be lowered easy to pass under bridges and such. Any ideas?

Quack, I read bowfishusa allot but thought I would see if anyone over here had something different...was just checking. I think I'm going with the low pressure sodium but have to make the deck fit the airboat and a 22' jet drive I'm building now and will probably run the wiring in the kneehigh rail and came out of the bottom of the rail to get the lights higher but still out of the way. Overhead would probably be better but may be too much of a pain.

My lights are mounted on the deck like everyone elses, I run 2 1000 halogens on the front and 8 500's down the side of the boat. I think there would be too much glare if you had them up over your head and you are more likely to get stuff caught up in them as well. I'd post a pic of mine but I don't know how to on here.

This one will be finished Friday. You can see how we built the light rail.

I think it holds 14 lights.

Nice mess of carp Faron. As for the lighting on an airboat for bow fishing.. we have found that knee high rails made from 2" EMT works the best for both keeping you in the boat and lighting. We run 6 300 Watt Halogens from the bottom side of the rail and 2 - 500waters from pipe stand just behind the drivers seat facing the side of the boat. this give you great lighting from bow to stern. The thing a lot of bowfisherman are doing wrong is they are over lighting and spooking the fish all you need is enough light to see by.
The lights we have only have one draw back and that is when the fish are up in the cattails ... The bow lights are to low then so we have a pole with 2 500 watt halogens that we can mount on the bow and turn off the other bow lights -- This puts the light above the cattails and down into them so we can see the fish... But we are always looking down at the water for the fish so the pole light dose get tangled up in tree limbs --- We have had very good luck with the halogens and my son is an electrician and we still use halogens because they hold up under the abuse we give them...

Bowfishing is an awesome sport. If you go to a tournament it seems like everyone has a different boat and everyone has a different Idea of the perfect light set up.
We have done rails of all heights but we try to let the customer supply his own lights.
i know the new HPS lights are very popular. I think this will be 12 300 watt lights.

I look forward to the day when your sending me pictures of all those ducks you blast laying on the front of your New AirRanger. Im going to get you in one someday. :)

These would have made some great PICS stacked on a Air Ranger with American Airboat Logo down the side. 8)

I may need to sell mine and get a 16 x 8 Air Ranger with that LS-2 Water Thunder Engine in it
