Southernairboat.com Bullfrog Bud Marquis Ride, Feast and Appreciation Ceremony

Ride the Glades to the crash site with The Angel of the Everglades,
"Bullfrog" Bud Marquis, rescuer of Eastern Airlines Flight 401 crash victims

See Bud's historic airboat as rebuilt by Southernairboat.com members

All Airboaters are welcome and encouraged to relive this unparalleled event in airboating history and to join members of southernairboat.com as we retrace the path and efforts of a historic Gladesman, "Bullfrog" Bud Marquis.

While frog hunting deep in the Everglades 35 years ago, Bud saw the plane crash and responded with his own airboat. He showed uncommon courage in spite of tremendous personal peril and was injured by his actions to save victim's lives deep in the heart of Florida's Everglades.

Join us as we honor the heroic efforts of Bud, show him and Nancy our deep appreciation and share in a Florida Airboat Association hosted Florida Cracker Feast immediately after the ride.

When: Saturday, December 29, 2007

Schedule of Events

9:00 AM - Airboat procession departure led by Bud Marquis, and Southernairboat.com members Sniper, John C, Cowboy, Rick, Olf Art & Goldhunter and a host of others - launch sites are west of Krome Ave. and north of US Hwy 41.

12:00 Noon - Moments of Thanks and Respect at EAL Flt. 401 crash site

Southernairboat, FAA and AAoF members, officers or organizations take no responsibility for ride conditions, operator competence, airboat equipment suitability or mechanical failure or any result of airboat ride activity.

2:00 PM Participating airboats return to ramps

4:00 PM - Florida Airboat Association hosted Florida Cracker Feast and Airboaters Appreciation Ceremony in honor of "Bullfrog" Bud and Nancy Marquis at Airboat Association of Florida club grounds.

Florida Cracker Feast is open to all ride participants - pot luck / covered dish offered by Airboaters for Airboaters. Main course will be Smoked Sausage donated by Crofton & Sons Meats / Tampa

AAoF club grounds are located on the south side of US Hwy. 41 about 7.5 miles west of Krome Ave.
AAoF GPS Coordinates: N 25*45.641’ - W 080*36.279’

Launch Site Locations:
East Ramp GPS coordinates N 25*45.701’ - W 080*30.141’ on north side of US Hwy. 41 - Conservation Area 3 at structure 334. This ramp will be better for airboats that don't like running dry and need water to unload.

West Ramp GPS Coordinates N 25*45.728’ - W 080*40.393’ on north side of US Hwy. 41 - Conservation Area 3 at structure 333 which is west of AAoF aprox. 4 miles at L67c. This ramp has less room for parking and will require dry running with not much water to unload your boat.

I suspect the AAoF camp grounds will be pretty full. They do not have a bunch of commercial camper hook ups and they have their own set of camping rules...more to come on those in just a bit...from them.

Meanwhile, rooms and abundant parking is available at the Seminole Gaming Palace where a SA member has negotiated a $119.00 per night rate for Friday and Saturday nights.

Meanwhile, there has been a vicious rumor circulating that some of the more vocal feminine voices on SA are All Talk and No Cook. Guess we'll see about that before too long.

Folks, Bishop Wright is working hard at dividing up all the necessities for the Southernairboat / Marquis Family Feast. More to come on that very soon.

Two of our Long Lost Brothers, cntry141iq and Stan are supposed to be hard at work rounding up a few frog legs to cook for Bud and Nancy.

Maybe somewhere out there is a SA member with an axe and a kettle and the knowledge to cook up some swamp cabbage???

There's probably gonna be some serious eaters...

Other ideas??

ALSO...seems like several of the victims and their family members want to take part in our ride. Can we Get-R-Done?

Always remember...the boat operator is fully responsible for his or her passengers.

I spoke with two of the survivors after the ceremony David Kaplan and Ron Infantino. They expressed there interest in going to the crash site on the 29th. There are many other survivors and family who wish to visit the site, it will help with some closure.

I am going to coordinate with Dave and Ron and they will network with the other survivors and family.

If you are going to attend the ride on the 29th and you have a couple of empty seats on your airboat and are willing to provide transportation to and from the crash site for survivors and or family please contact me via PM.

I do not yet have a number of seats that are needed so I can not make any promises who will take who. Please contact me if you can make the comitment.

Thank You
John C.

Hey Grant, don't worry about steeping on any toes. No such thing as to many frog legs or to much swamp cabbage. That seems to always run out first.

I'll be there with a "virgin Everglades" airboat.. (i.e. my airboat has never savored the exquisite experiences of the Glades)
I just hope you guys don't laugh too hard at my poor, mistreated airboat. She's pretty banged up, and damn heavy, but I wouldn't miss this for the world... :D :D

Remember, I'll be hauling Painterchic from the airport to the campgrounds, but once she's out of the truck, she's all yours!!

Man, I sure hope she doesn't wreck havoc with my truck.....................

Most us rednecks can't walk past a boiled peanut. Some of us evern dip into a boilin pot to try one of the delicate tasting delicasies. Add a little cayenne and Cajun seasoning and you may have to stand guard over the pot til they are ready.

Never underestimate the draw of the humble goober.

That's what i'm talkin' about. Get them cracker minds going and start cookin'.

Seems like Critterchics can't cook, but sure can make excuses... All Talk, so some might say.....we'll see, I guess. No wait....one of 'em's gonna be ridin' with another of Our Real Heros..BigKavr, so she'll be too busy to cook....heard that one before.

Grant, not sure any of us would consider eatin' frog legs that don't have running lights on them...which one is port and which is starboard? Maybe you and the Sawgrass U gang can get a special use & exception permit from your FFWCC friends?

DBrewster, From the looks of things, that BarBQue you're close too must be GOOD...Bring It On, Bro.

T's talkin' sho nuff Gumbo...shrimps, sausages, stone crabs...she ain't lettin' no Cracker Man out cook her. Oh, and she's also maybe bringing a good portion of that gator what caused me to buy a new cell phone ....
