Caddy 500 intake - Stock vs Edelbrock?

I have a stock 1970 Caddy 500. I've pitched my prop so as to limit my RPM's to top out at 4200 which gives me a max of 2100 RPM's at the hub with my 2 to 1 belt drive which is where I want to turn my serius series blades. I have decent push but am wondering if switching out my stock intake for a aluminum Edelbrock will add enough horsepower and/or torque to be worth the expense. I want to be able to add a little more pitch but stay in the 4200 range plus lose a little bit of weight. Any ideas on this being a good or bad option? Thanks.

It can't hurt your performance honestly, but I doubt you will see much of a power gain. The intake really is a small piece of a more complex puzzle and the fact you are choking the engine down causes me to doubt you would see a 25 rpm gain. If this was an engine with modifications such as ported heads, bigger valves, larger cam and bigger displacement then the gain would be more pronounced. That said you will not lose power so if funds permit go for it! You will shed weight as those intakes are heavy. All the Branch engines that go on a gear drive use an upgraded intake such as the 2115 Edelbrock. Before you slap one on, read up on it because the Edelbrock castings are flawed and every intake I have used in past few years required a machine shop to resurface or you will find it does not fit exactly as it should.

The 2 Edelbrocks I had both required a little clean-up to mount correctly. I would have the exhaust crossovers welded and the plenum welded -up. Then have it surfaced. I also made a sheetmetal gasket for the exhaust crossover port to go on the head side of main exhuast gasket. Helped keep less expensive exhaust gaskets from burning through.

just my 2 cents

Awesome advise. I have good motor guy in our area. I'll get with him about the fitment. Thank you for the information.

Buddy has my 2115 Edelbrock in his shop. We went back to a stock intake and Edlelbrock 1905 carb for my Direct Drive boat to get more low end torque. I'll sell you that intake for roughly half the cost of new. Fit my 500 caddy fine.

The dyno showed a gain of 25 foot pounds torque @ 3100 and 26 horsepower @ 3800 rpm on a stock platform.

I don't really like the Edelbrock 2115 but until I can convince someone in the "FAMILY" to build a better one the "CADILLAC MAFIA" are limited in their choices for a dual plain intake. The aftermarket Cadillac part hacks have multiple single plane intake options, but for a direct drive application they are worse than the Edelbrock.
