Well-known member
ive always had 220 gpu engines on 14 to 16 ft boat they do ok , run ground somtimes, i am getting ready to build a new boat , i just got a 500 caddy , i was going to make it 10;1 cr and just upgrade the timing and intake , [mild budget]15 ft fiberglass . ideas ,..........does everybody run ground with ease or just fair.... thanks alot..

Depends on how you set it up. With the rite gearbox & prop it will run ground with ease.

watch jdotson's video. called reducted caddy pounding ground.it may answer you ground runnin question.

Man, with the right prop, you can blister the ground with a direct drive caddy. You don't have to have a gear box. Sure, we all would like to have one, but you can do a lot without one.

on the main paige it is listed towards the bottom right hand side of the paige it will say airboat videos 12-28-?? reducted cad.

I have a 472 DD (used to have a 500) on a 16' Freedom Craft and I run dry pretty darn good. I have to be careful when I choose my route up a hill but it works well. I also run 900-1000 yards from our house across our pasture to a little farm pond. I bought my motor and prop (72' 2 blade Power Shift) from a guy that had it in a 14' Diamond Back and it suprised me how easy it went where everyone else did. This is the only set up I have had but so far pretty satisified.[/url]

Howdy, what's medium budget? Sorry, had to.

medium budget to me would be laughed at by you engine master challenge guy's. by the way loved the slide show on that motor.

sorry guys, didn't mean to offend any of the DD Caddy guys with the gearbox statement. Bondsman looks like that DD 472 ran real well dry. I guess the "with ease" statement got me. Its just a little easier with the gearbox.

My what a BIG PLENUM you have! That’s some priority cooling also! You gotta do the same thing with a conventional SBC!

i am new to the forum but have been running airboats for 15 years .mostly in hernando
on the vaness side. i like all the input and loke forward to chat all the time..............

That Caddy is beautiful, Performance Parts. What was it built to run in ?

Garrett, nice to have you on the forum. There are several other boaters up in our area now ..... Blackpowderscout is close by, and Jrstulz is a close neighbor of mine who's putting a new boat together. I'm in Orange Park, and there are several more in the Cross Creek area, about an hour South.

Get in touch with us and we'll ride some this Summer.

olf

If you ride Lake Hernando my boat will go up Hickory hill,BS hill, and the groves which isn't too bad for a dd Cadi and 16' fiberglass boat.
