caddy upgrades ??

T-REX

Well-known member
what cam should we run with a 500 caddy, and where is the best place to buy said cam ?? while im asking, which carb is best for my application,
only edelbrock makes a intake (no choice there ) where can i find some headers ( that arent a million bucks )....what else can be done for low rpm torque ???

thanks in advance everybody !!!

T-rex I am sort of new to this ,but , I have a gear drive on mine . I got a ss 300 cam from cad500 . They said its for airboats with gear drive. The dyno says pulls from 2200 to 4800 .I got 460 hp at 4850 -Got at least 580 pounds or above at 2800 to 4800 a litte more or less. with a Q junk- stock .pulls hard .I think theres a better one out there .This is a not a piston killer,V-train is in the grey area . I got a torker intake dont no where i got it was donated .Got 950 heads bigger vaules, ported 60 over block. Money is the evil here too . just wanted a hill runner

T-rex I was runnin a direct drive once and the biggest two things were the right cam and good mufflers for back pressure, My cam grinder man said do not run headers but run stock manifolds and good quiet mufflers it will make more torue that way. Try and find a cam grinding shop olocally or call one of the cam manufacturers and explain to them what your doing and that you need max torque at low rpms and they probably will know what to do.

A good set of headers can atually increase torque, but I haven't seen too many "good" header designs on airboats.

They all seem to be short in length with fairly large collectors, leading into the next worst invention ever to enter the exhaust world, flex pipe.

I predict in the next 5 years or so, we'll see a trend of airboats cathing up to the rest of the exhaust design world.
