Cadillac 500 - HOLY GRAIL

What would be the odds to find a running Cadillac with a 472 / 500 still tagged and legal where you can take it out for a drive to test the engine?

What would the odds today in the year 2020 to find a 45 year old 1976 Cadillac in immaculate condition with 29,313 miles ?

What would the odds be to find it was recently purchased from it's original owner 89 years old with full documentation of the original purchase?

What would be the odds that the new owner is doing a "resto-mod" and is pulling out the flawlessly running 500 cubic inch engine with an original 800cfm Quadra-Jet carburetor and it's mated TH400 transmission to re-power with a turbo Cummins diesel?

Finding any running Cadillac engine today is a big deal but finding this virgin 500 is the HOLY GRAIL, possibly the last great low mileage 500 take out find ever !

What a find !

You must have accidentally sat on a golden horseshoe Swamp!!

You aint got a hair on your lucky CM guy azz if you dont let that 45 year old motor keep on runnin on a DD boat!! :toothy7:

Later this week it will be at the Branch shop for a quick inspection.

Then we will fog the cylinders with oil and put this baby into a cradle stand for storage.

We will see where this one goes but I think it should stay together for now.

It ran really good and the carburetor is desirable in GM factory component classes of racing.

Unknown if Elvis would appreciate the diesel or another airboat anchor the parts guy asked you 3 times of the year.
Go for it! People love special order shit from our history of what almost worked!

Ted the drive we run now is a 2.55 Ox

Think I'll save it for a direct drive build for one of the kids. Let them start out like I did.

Had a 1.53 back in the day sold it to an old boy who is gonna use it on a Paxton style supercharged 540 aircraft build.

Ain't that right JeffRo !

I ran across an even better one!! Wish I had the money to get it. 1970

Where is mr.branch located? I’m picking up a FREE caddy motor today! My kind of holy grail 🤣 I seen you lived in the nature coast so do I. Never own a airboat but I don’t think it will be long before I do 😁 look forward to hearing from you and maybe meeting you swamphunter45

Mr Branch is located in Brooksville, Florida
South of SR50 2 miles, keep in mind he is an engine builder and parts supplier not a mechanic.
That said he is a great resource for anything Cadillac

Yes sir! I am going to need a cam and intake I just picked up some headers for $150 off Facebook market place probably going to keep it stock till I get a actual boat up and running! First timer so we shall see. 😁 might rebuild this thing idk how far I want to get into it

Is it the one with the cone on the front corner? That’s what I got on mine and that’s what we used to search for when we ran circle track.

This is becoming fun with swamp wants to cast iron ancient vs new cad from eco tec to zo6?
No issues with folks promoting iron from 50 years ago thinking it works but even Cad moved on from iron anchors!
