In April, I learned from very disturbing news that that DEP is going to close off hunting to numerous spoil island in the IRL & Banana River.
They are using the excuse that CROW HUNTERS are disturbing the nesting colonies on some of the islands & letting birds lie.
IN FACT, they let it slip that numerous affluent riverside residents are complaining about the early morning noise.
Now some of these islands are already conservation islands & are not hunted, but many are traditional waterfowl hot spots.
Here is a list of the following islands in Brevard & Indian River Counties that they are planning on closing off to hunting. The word hunter appears after the islands in which the rich folks have complained about:
Brady Island - hunters
George Island - hunters
Honeymoon Island East - hunters
Honeymoon Island West - hunters
BC30 - hunters (shooters - dead crows)
BC39
BC49
BC52
BC53
IR02
IR03
Hobart Island
Oslo Road Conservation Area Island
The following the the TIER SYSTEM that DEP is working on:
Tier 1 - Non reglatory/non enforceable signage
Tier 2 - Input from County Commisions for closure
Tier 3 - NO ENTRY!!!
When DEP found out that a DU rep was present they began to back pedal a bit & stated how glad thery were to have someone @ this mtg & that they were not singling out hunters, but SHOOTERS.
We need to get e-mails sent off ASAP!!!
Once they start to close some of our traditional spot, eventually they will all be closed to waterfowl hunting.
