Got new 72 stumppuller from whurlwind ,now boat cant run the hill. turning 2900 at 23 degree can someone help? :?

What did you have on before you changed props?
How big is the boat?
What do you have for power?
DiD you make any other changes? or just the prop?

Sounds like you need to try a few different pitch settings to see where she wants to run best at. If she was running dry at 3100rpms, Then I would try setting the prop so it turns up to 3100 and start there. you will have to fine tune it to how you want it to run.

Not trying to offend anybody but I have heard from several people that the stump puller is not a good performer. Might want to try sensenich or water walker

I have run right along side the stump puller and I pulled away with a 3B Falcon on a 1.7 reduction with 5 people and a boat full of hunting gear. The other guy was 2.1 with a 3b stump puller on a 454.

I ran a Sensenich Q series 74" and a 74" stump puller on my boat one right after the other. On my boat (500 caddy dd, 15' aluminum with poly) they both pushed about the same but the Sensenich was a little quieter. I think my Stump puller pushes just a littler harder. I can run dry with both of them (on sand or grass). I have my pitch set to 18 on the second mark so it's past the cast mark on the blade. I run at 2650 rpm wot. I think this is about the best setting for how "I" ride. I cruise at 2100 rpm about 25 mph and I top out at about 42 mph. I agree that it's a fine tuning thing just keep trying to change the pitch till it rides how you like. Don't go past 3000 for too long, but you can start there. Whirl Wind told me these props like to run around 2700 rpm. Just my experience.

I have run hundreds of props. Sold thousands of props, To say that a Stump Puller is not a good performer is Bogus.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but a Stump puller will hold its own.
Whirl Wind makes fantastic props and has fantastic customer service.

I think Sensenich props are great too!

One might work a little better on your engine reduction, set up than another but doesnt make it not a good performer.

I RUN A 72 STUMP PULLER ON MY BOAT AND IT SPANKS A$$
I HAD A BUNCH OF GUY TRY TELLIN ME THAT WARP DRIVE WAS THE WAY TO GO .............NEED LESS TO SAY IT WAS NOT .......PUT MY TRUSTY SP BACK ON AND WENT BACK TO SPANKIN THEM THERE AUTOMOTIVES :D

got 2 72 inch stump pullers in my barn....damn good place for then till someone solves the harmonics problem....besides that a 5 blade warp drive set up right will kick their ass :D

Grant ole buddy ole pal, could you do some 'splainen for me as to how to set up a 5 blade.

I'm droppin' down a blade from a 6.

Straight valve 540.

I will put my 4B against a 4B stump puller on a similar rig. I thought my 80" Falcon outperformed the stump puller also. Heck I proved it with a full load of gear on my boat. I had a 16' boat with 3 guys try to beat me back to the ramp. My boat had 5 men, 2 dog, decoys , hunting gear and we where in deep water. I not only pulled away but I let him pass me and ran him down. From what I have read on this site and what people have told me, it all depends on set up I guess.

no offense but the 4 blade super wide is a completely different prop than a stump puller. If it was a bet I'd bet on the S blades every time! A super wide is closer to the master blaster or maximus from Water Walker. I was simply stating my experience between a 2-blade Q series and a 2-blade stump puller. 2 props that were designed to do the same thing. Run on direct drive or aircraft boats. The results will be different to everyone I'm sure and it has a lot to do with how you ride.

I would start with 6.5 degrees....shoot for 2900-2950 static.
Move it 1/2 degree at a time when you get close to that rpm.....don't know how heavy you rig is, but it will make a diff on the rpm you will need to turn for best results.
We normally try for a little over 3000 rpm on the water....so much will depend on what you want it to do.

gotbait, you will get a lot of advice here. sometimes it seems everybody likes what they own. Bottom line is unless all the different props were tested on the same boat on the same day,on the same terrain, in the same weather conditions, the results would not be accurate anyway. And on boats of different size, weight, and HP, you can't make a good comparison at all.
Don't get discouraged. Play with the pitch. you will see a difference.
A friend of mine did the same thing. he went from a stick prop to a Water Walker composite. Fired it up the first time on dry ground and it would not budge. next day backed some of the pitch out and it took right off, no problem.
Be patient, adjust the prop correctly. You'll get her tweaked.
Good Luck.

GOTBAIT, I SUGGEST MAKING THE PROP ANGLE LESS ENOUGH TO GET BACK TO THE RPM YOU WERE CLIMBING THE HILL WITH. PRETTY EASY WITH A 2 BLADE. FIND A CANAL WITH A ROAD RIGHT NEXT TO IT, BRING YOUR TOOLS ALONG. JUST KEEP TWEEKIN TILL ITS THERE. I USE SARNO EXTENSION IN MELBOURNE.

Good advise!
When you get close to what you want, make 1/2 degree adjustments and try various terrain till you get whats best with your rig....probably wont be the same as the next guys rig....but don't worry keep tweaking till you get the most you can out of it for your rig and the way you run!

Thanks for the info. tryed a few 22turned3400...23/3200...24/2900. Will carb make a diff Im runin edelbrock 600?
