carb help

I have a lycoming O-290. I have to spray starter fluid in it to get it to start up most of the time. If I shut it off it will start right back up, But if I let it set while I'm fishing I have to spray it again. What would make it do this? Can any one tell me what carbs on this engine stock and the best carb to run on this engine? Thanks Josh

The O-290 carb is the MA-3, most other models like the O-290 D use the MA3-SPA. The last one is the best to use. You need to overhaul your carburetor. For some reason you are not getting fuel to the cylinders. Spend a few dollars on the little things like a fresh carb and magneto and a lot of those pesky starting problems will go away.

we talked about this just the other day
I had an -0-290 years ago, and had the
exact same symptoms. on occasion I
would have to replace the piston seal
on the accelerater pump . These carbs
are very simple ( carburetor -101 )
if you are just a little bit mechanically
inclined, you should have no problem
with this task.

I got to looking at it and when I pump the gas the accelerator pump does not move. Where can I get a kit for this carb( I guess I need to know what carb I have first ) Thanks for the help

Josh,
If you are near Brevard county, Rhodes airboats service in Melbourne can modify your pump to accept a Carter pump. Dusty just did my ma4-5, and it works great, the marvel pump was gonna be aroumd 100 bucks the carter pump is about 20 bucks , just another option for you.
Jim
