carb modification to prevent run on

jim

Well-known member
I have heard about a mod to the carb that prevents run on and kicking back after shutdown on a car motor.

Does anyone know what this mod does? Does it let the throttle butterfly close completely?

Jim

Yes on older cars or trucks there is an idle up silonoid for when the ac is on and you can wire it so when you turn the key on it pushes the throtle up and when you shut it off you have the idle screw backed off andthe butterflys close all the way had to do it and some hoped up motors to prevent run on

I have been thru this already. I ordered my part thru http://www.racesearch.com The part # are #4674 Throttle solenoid.(gm#2060106)#2657 univeresal solenoid lock nut. & #209 throttle solenoid bracket. It all came to about 75.00. Real easy to put on w/hot wire from key switch. Good Luck. Works well w/sb &bb Chev.Stops that dieseling & back motion

Thanks Cracker, Mine doesn't do it much, only if it is running around 800-1000 rpms when I shut it down, if I get it to around 600-700 no problem, it would be nice to add. Are there any problems with mounting these or are they pretty simple?

Where in georgia are you ? From what I have seen there is not many Airboaters in the Atlanta area where I am at.

If you want to do it the cheap way got to the junk yard or to a garage and see if they have one laying around

these part #'s I believe were Holley #'s It's been about 2 yrs. since i installed them and yes they will work on ANY small block or big block chevy.

Sniper, I in north GA. about 60 miles north of Atlanta, how about you?

Edelbrock offers a Idle Compensator Kit which comes complet ready to bolt on. Part #8059, cost is under $90. Any of your local auto parts that handle Edelbrock Preformance Parts can get it quickly. These things do work.

I'm running an O-470 GPU with a 500 Holley. I took the choke plate out of the carb, and installed a cable and hand choke cable that runs up next to the seat. I connected the other end to the normal position on the side of the carb, so I can set the idle speed using the fast idle cam on the carb.
I can set the idle speed, and even idle the engine down so it stops even when hot.
It takes a little getting used to, but works well on the Holley.
Also, the newer Holleys have a check valve that prevents backfires from blowing the power valve.
