Carburetor help

I have a MA 4-SPA carburetor ,the accelerator pump keeps getting stopped up.I have taken the off the engine twice sprayed with carb cleaner and ran a tip cleaner in the tube to open it up.Works fine, but when the boat sits up for a couple weeks stops up again.Any ideas?

If you are running pump gas, that may be the issue. It goes to varnish pretty quickly. AvGas has a much longer shelf life than pump gas..most of my lawn service friends run Sea Foam as a fuel stabilizer in all their equipment..I've started to do the same and it seems like I have less "gunk-up" problems.

Some of the older ones had leather seals on
the pump piston, and if there is no seal around
the pump shaft the fuel in the pump cylinder
will evaporate in just a day or two and the
leather dries out and sometimes crumbles.
I replaced the piston seal on mine quite a few
times, and had to clean leather crap out of
the squirter. Always wondered if you could get
a neopream cup seal for that, but back then
nickles and dimes went into the gas tank
and I just cut a new seal out of an old belt
or pair of boots. Of course I always ran pump
gas ( Hi Test when I had an extra nickle or two)
and never had problems if I ran it regularly.
This may not be it at all, just a thought.

Why don't you try silicon make a gasket sealer? Should last a lot longer.

I just replaced my accelerator pump, and it was an older leather one, I was having the same problems and it also makes the engine hard to start. It was a night and day difference once I got the old leather one out , it was a mess all soft and crumbly. I would also put a good quality water seperator, preferably one with a drain and cup on the bottom so you can keep the water and pump fuel garbage out three tanks and its scary the amount of water it has been draining, but I also have a 40 gallon tank that is hard to keep full sometimes.
Just for comparison on the bench my ma4-5 carb would not squirt fuel out the barrel hardly at all, with the new pump it was going 4 ft out the barrel.Let us know how it goes.

Is there a screen in the brass cup on the bottom of the bowl? If the accelerator pump is not coming apart other crap could be coming in from the bowl.

Thank guys,I do run Av gas, will ad stabilizer, also just bought this boat & I have to install a water separator,I need to check on the screen on the bottom of the bowl.

If your using AV gas don't worry about the stabilizer. I have seen first hand that AV gas sit up over a year almost two fire up and run great.
