I've not seen much info about this, but the CCAA website lists a rodeo this weekend.

April 15 - CCAA Meeting & Spring Rodeo at the Swimming Hole Park. Meeting at 10:00 am. Rodeo begins at 11:00.

Has anyone heard if this is still on? Anyone planning on going? Where is "Swimming Hole Park"? I assume that's the SWFWMD/CCAA park that they've built out in the middle of the marsh. Can't get there by car! :)

They put on a good show in grand style. If this is still on, anyone able should be there!

Yeah BB... it's the north-easternmost navigible part of the lake. The main body of the lake is to the south and east.

I've been working off-n-on over the past few months on a map of the WHOLE lake. However, I won't be able to have it done in time for the rodeo.

The map I've been working on includes the areas all the way south below 44 where the river flows into the lake. If you notice on the map link above, you can see a straight canal heading to the NE and that is the outflow canal where the lake heads back to the river.

I did not zoom in on that park area too much, but to the north side of it is a little drag strip. you can see the wider trail there. It almost looks like there are two boats drag racing on that trail.... When I get more time, I'll zoom in and see if it's boats or just two reflections or something.

I think the actual rodeo events take place in the lilly covered pool on the south side of the park. Not sure about that.

Hey Mood I think we are going to try and make it. Do you know of any good place to stay around there? The princess approved of Liars Lodge, so if someplace like that around there that would be great. thanks billy

BadBilly, Bandit and others... I've made you a map. Use the roads to match up to your favorite highway map, and then you should be able to see the path to the Rodeo site from the Hernando ramp located near the corner of 41 & 200.

Click here To see the map. It's a fairly large area, so the file is large. It should load within a few minutes even on a 56k modem. But because it's large, a lot of the detail is not there.

As I've said, I'm working on a super fine detail map of the area shown in this map and it covers even more area. Wehn it's done, I'll post info about how you can get one.

I hope this helps!

At the last rodeo, we have never been there, and this map and the use of a GPS got us there. ALso, there ought to be a steady stream of boats you can follow if you get there at the right time.

BadBilly - That area is close enough to my homestead in Orlando, I've never needed to stay the night there. But I seem to recall Swampjet (and/or BigDaddy) speaking highly of the Liar's Lodge. Go for it!
Edited to add...
Oops. The liar's lodge is by Orange Lake, I think. I've never been there. To answer your question more accurately... "Sorry, I don't know".

Have fun!

Yes, we are definitely on for the RODEO this Saturday! Meeting at 10:00 am, Rodeo starts at 11:00 am. Try to be there before 10 am, so as not to disturb the meeting itself. It can be hard to have a meeting with boats arriving.

Great map, Mood!

No, there's nothing like Liar's Lodge in Citrus County -- too bad! There's a Best Western just west of Hernando, and there's Central Motel in Inverness. There's also a Microtel south of Ocala at Belleview, and lots of hotels in Ocala -- a good 30 miles away. There are two small motels in Hernando, but I can't vouch for either of them.
