changing from io to a carb

I have a cont IO system on my 540, would changing to a carb have any advantages or disadvantages.. the motor is a 540 with 480 angle valve cylinders and the rsa is mounted underneath..

It will be much easier to start when hot. It will lose some torque and some fuel mileage if you were using your lean rich cable. But it also means that anyone will be able to start your boat and run it if you get messed up in the woods. Charles

My new 0540 will have continental fuel injection on it. Most people i know run continental on there lycomings because you can adjust it from the outside. But Lycoming does make a system like that, but i Belive its 3500.00!!!!! If you keep clean filters on the lines, and keep everything clean, and pressure set right, then fuel injection will be EXCELLENT! but you cant expect to put a cheap system on it, and it still be excellent!

you will loose about 30 hp but it will be a little eaiser to start. Not much if you know how to start a feul injection motor.

Best starting I have found was to do the flooded start procedure. Full lean on mixture . Throttle open 1/4 " mags on crank & when engine fires full rich on mix quickly. If engine fails to start the full rich & turn on fuel pump until pressure comes up then start.

I saw in the new ABW mag that someone is making custom throttle body injection for Lycoming and Continental motor. That every thing including the intake. Just call and tell them what your motor is and horsepower and the'll send you one just for your motor spec. Only catch is it's $3500.00.

The airflow performance system seems pricey but it is a great system , I know a few people who run them and they never seem to have any problems .
