Went out saturday over to Budda mans house over in the forest where cntry and I diagnost his engine problems for him wich wasn't good .Just before dark we drove over to a little two acre frog pond .Cntry droped his boat on the ground ,spun it around and loaded our gear up along with marcey, cheryl ,budda man and myself .Cntry then proceeded to blow down the little woods rode for a few hundred yards dodging trask piles and refrigerators and entered the little pond .We sat at the edge of the pond discussing the layout and the plan of action. We noticed the pond had grass around the edges and several floating islands of grass. It was decide that we would first lay the grass down ,Cntry took is boat and commenced to making dounuts ,figure eights,360's,720's and hoped several tree,s and logs. After about 30 minutes of this I could not handle it any longer . It might have been differant if I was the driver but riding in somebody else's boat is one thing I'm not use to ,any way I gave country a that's enough sign and he slowed down just long enough to tell me just a little more. Then with out warning cntry made a made dash to the pond edge.seems all them constant turns like riding the scrambler ride at the fair took it's toll on the engine by not allowing any air to go thru the radiator, it had run hot and I mean 300 degree hot.We cooled the engine down ,gave it a drink of water and had no other problems out of it the rest of the night
At dark we proceded to gather our frogs up and 3 hours later we had enough . We tried to gig them all but we had failed .Darn frogs kept sending in reinforcements. cntry blowed us back to and up on the trailer with our two hundred pounds of frogs. We split our giggings in half with budda since it was he that turned us on to it and we called it a night.
The next morning I called my buddy hunter to see if he was going to the run and he was .HE asked if we had giged any frogs and I said we got a few and if he would bring his cooker we would cookem and he said he would and would cleanem also . The next day after hunter spent 3 hours cleaning frogs' ,he was not very happy seems his idea of a few and my idea of a few are about 300 legs apart , we bellyed up to some fine frog legs and a big bate of fried gar fish that woody had gigged ,cleaned and spiced it up with dill , we are however trying to call it something else maybe gator fish ,any way let me get along with my story.
While talking to budda man on the phone this morning about his motor he mentioned that he had to call in reinforcements to help him clean his part of frog catch. He wasn't very happy when I told him that hunter cleaned ours in the run for us old timers. Then he asked if hunter noticed any snakes in the frogs bellys seems that the big frogs were slap full of banded water snakes and cotton mouths. One water snake was over a foot long.
After conciderable research I found that the bull frog is a meat eater and will eat anything he can get in his mouth. lives to be over 15 years old
males have ear drums bigger than there eyes while females ear drums are smaller than ther eyes.It takes a bullfrog tad pole one to two years to make a frog and bull forgs can weigh up to 2 pounds.
My wife did make a statement that the frogs we gigged were as big as little dogs.Guess cause they would howl like a dog when they got gigged. Maybe be next weekend will be more entertaining.later

You hit it good STAN; the engine is fine, no worse for the wear so far. You forgot to mention the run out of the pond after adding the frogs was also up hill all the way with no way to keep forward momentum as 90 degree turns were required between trees and the ruts in the road were a little extra added spice. threading the boat between the two pine trees and jumping it up on the trailer at the same time in the dark with everyone on board was the grand finale. Budda got off the boat just laughin and shakin his head and mumblin to his self ... somethin about "one bad as% bi#ch". Layin down grass on several acres of pond was a tall order but we gotter done, sorry about all the spinnin circles but the grass was too tall to just lay down by drivin over it, I had to tie it in a knot by twisting it up.

I had never gigged with three head lights on the boat all goin at once and with two ladies also giving directions and the darn frogs jumpin outta the chute with out even touchin the sides of the chute from the bottom of the bag was different also. Ya'll liked that one I gigged at the same time I was drivin over the log with both of ya'll on the bow and I got the frog and didnt throw anyone off the boat LOL. I loved it when we hit that wad of them and ya'll looked like your pants was on fire and your butt was catchin .. frogs were jumpin everywhere and you two looked like keystone cops tryin to get them in the chute and gig another one I wish someone woulda turned on the camcorder aww maybe next time.

It was the kinda trip that will be talked about for years to come by all involved that night and all the ones who witnessed the frog cleaning the next day in the run. I turned down many requets for the location of the pond and several for buying the legs, I guess they figured I would be easy so they asked me instead of you, maybe they know you LOL. I gave a vague answer each time and they filled in the rest for themselves and I might add wrongly also but I didn't steer em wrong I just let them drive themselves there.

I want budda to put us on the good pond next he indicated this one was a scrappy one but we needed to start there first. I beleive he will get off the location of the good one after his ride saturday night, especially since his boat needs help and the kids gotta eat. Naw he is a good guy and he knows we won't give it up and won't over gig it. Lets see where were we now ... oh yeah ... darn of all the things I have lost I miss my memory the most.

I will say though that we have found some of the best froggin in some of the most unlikely places I would never have looked there I didn't even expect to find any water there let alone frogs. and only two little gators I saw they have it made there unless the frogs eat them first.

Don't worry the super barge I got comin will still get r dun it should run dry even better than this one does and I will be able to add a chainsaw to the equipment list for those tight spots don't you know. Alumitech called today and it is getting the finishing touches on the hull, next come the stands and cage, the engine is almost done, I picked up a bigger badder prop last week for it and the new gear box is being built waiting on the gears. Now gotta plan the layout of the white trash condo with air cond. and 110v elect. gotta have my coffee first thing in the morning when gettin outta that queen size air bed on the front deck. ROUGHIN IT SMOOTHLY gettin too old to sleep on the ground these days, I been there done that for years now its time to enjoy the little things in life ... like froggin with 5 people on the boat after runnin dry for a 1/8 mile to get to the water and nobody walkin to the pond. awww good life if you don't weaken.

Helluva story. All I can do is hope it was a true story cause it does sound great. Haven't heard of frogs like that in alot of years, and back in Houma La. Keep up the great postings and try for some pics next time for us poor ole folks. Thanx for some great reading. Later, Cajun

Cajun, I worked a seismic job down in Houma long time ago. Was beautiful airboatin back then. Love those LA SWAMPS !

Seems I remember giggin some nutria back then n BBQing them on one of the swamp drills platforms.

That wouldn't surprise me at all. The state has had a bounty on the swamp rats for a while. Been trying to get a buddy to ship me some frog legs, but he ain't done it yet. Yea I can't think about Houma or La. for that fact without missing it. Great state and wildlife for sure.

It is a true story and the evidence will be consumed at the memorial day run for sure at camp mack spaces 71 & 72 at the rear of the campground. If we do good this weekend then maybe at the quiet airboat event there may be a few cooked up there also. We cooked some up at the bus which some of them were of the same size. so c'mon down the grease is hot and so is the weather. Thank god for the rain this mornin and maybe it will continue, texas has been getting plenty lately since theirs got started maybe we will also. It will hurt the froggin some because the critters will get back up in the trees and bushes but we will deal with it.
