I know this has nothing to do with airboats , but I figured you guys could give me some pretty accurate real life numbers , I'm thinking about trading out of my 07 dodge 3500 w/ hemi for a 08 chevy 1500 regular cab with the vortec v6 and was wondering how much better gas mileage I can expect , I'm averaging around 10 to 14 in my dually now and hoping to get up closer to the 18 to 20 range will this truck do that

I have a 07 GMC, long bed, std cab, auto and V6. About 30 gal tank. It get 21 mpg at about 60to 70 mph on the Hwy. About 18 mph at 79 mph.

It get about 16 to 18 in the city.

it's does much better than my 95 chev diesel thats gets about 12 mpg pulling my 6000 lbs boat and trailor.

But I would not pull anything heavy with the GMC.

thanks for the input , thats better than i expected Im trading out of my dually and they are gonna sell me an 08 regular cab v/6 w/ chrome package and cruise control for right at 14,000 and I wont have to pay taxes cause of my trade and should only have to borrow about 13000 w/ my trade , they say my note will be around 250 a month for 60 , but I'm spending about 100 a week in fuel right now , so im thinking with the saving s on fuel i can double up on notes and pay off quick , how much can this truck tow with the tow package hitch ?

The hitch i am going to put on it will do 5500#. When doing 75 mph the rpm is only 2000 rpms. This one has the hwy gears in it and she just don't seem to have alot.
Hell when you get into sand or wet grass the dam thing can get stuck quick. This is a low end truck, but it's better paying 80 per wk in gas than 40 a day. I drive 130 miles per day and only have to stop 6 to 8 times the entire round trip. Put over 25 k in less than a yr.

Ive got 1 with 176087 miles on it . She still gets 18/21and tows a 28ft offshoreat 65,16ft airboat or a yenmar vio35 thats 7400pd with no prob.

LMAO chuck , heck if that aint enough incentive to get it I don't know what is , I'm gonna have to pass that on to the salesman , lets's see we can give it to you at employee cost minus all holdback , and well even throw in the last 1000.00 coupon voucher we have for this month , oh and by t he way with the additional money you'll save in fuel costs you can run to florida once a month and go play on those mini airboats their building down their , SOLD .... where do I sign my name , sick still lmao

Hi folks, just got a 07 Silverado crew cab with 4.8 V8. nineteen at 75, 16 locally, about 12 pulling air boat at 60, lots of wind drag. It did a lot of shifting up and down in drive on hills, so, studied manual, (talked to dealer), and now run in third gear when pulling boat with no harm or danger to transmission, still only turning 2300 at 60, (loafing, 14 MPG). Trailer towing feature only changes shift pattern on acceleration, which I do use.
I considered a V6, but with boat, overall I'm glad I got a V8, when you pass about sixty five with the V6, (full size truck, empty and not towing) it wont do much better than V8 because of high gearing, has to grunt more up hills.

All of the newer GMC/Chevy trucks have a button on the end of the shift handle to put the truck in tow/haul mode. It changes the rpms where the shifts occur and maybe something else that I don't know about. The 6's seem to struggle a little more with the airboat and I figured (probably wrong) that the 8 wasn't using as much fuel since it wasn't working as hard. Then again, most semi's use a 6 banger and the K-loader I used to load cargo planes had a Ford 300 6 cyl. Guess it is how you use the power they make and the right gearing to get the most out of them.

Well I'm thinking about selling part of my business and If I do I wont need the dually anymore , and in todays world I'm looking to save money any way I can , I only wish I could've seen the future , cause I would have just bought the half ton last year instead of getting the dually , but who knows , anybody in here need a front end loader and trailer and a bunch of implements ?

gonna wait a little longer and see if buisness picks back up again , before i trade out of my dually , thanks for input guys, phone started ringing again this weekend
