The below statements are off the top of my head, My apologies if I mixed up any numbers... I did not write this stuff down as it happened...
4700 pounds of junk removed from the area.
The KRVSA club won the $700 prize for the competition between clubs. Broward came in 2nd. Southern Airboat came in 4th (I think) with about 750 pounds of trash. The KRVSA Board of Directors voted to donate their winnings directly back into the pot for next year's cleanup prize. Several other individuals then began donating $100 bills to the kitty and it quickly grew to $2300. And I believe that is just a start to the prize pot for next year. The total prize pot for THIS year was $1100.
The most unusual item was a rotted out BBQ gas grill. The guy who brought a shopping cart in did not win on that one. Editorial comment: It seems to me that a BBQ in a recreational boating area is not that unusual. Whereas a shopping cart in a swamp is pretty dang unusual in my opinion!
The story about the woman paralized in an auto accident and her airboat was told. It seems that once she recovered from her injuries, she began to build a boat, but when she dropped it off at the shop, the guys determined that is was not safe, would NEVER be safe, so they destroyed her boat and began building her a NEW one. They passed the collection plate to take donations to buy parts for this new handicapped enabled boat. I'm not sure how much they collected in that, but lots of people began coming to the stage and placing cash ($100 bills) there. It was a tear jerking moment when a man approached carrying a young boy who had a fist full of money.
The 50/50 drawing was worth $902 to the winner, and the guy who won the wad of cash instantly donated $200 to the Handicapped woman's boat fund.
Chester (the "blender boat guy" from the Broward club) found an old SHALLOW WATER bouy and it counted towards some of the weight of junk, but the guy running the loader never hauled it to the dumpster. That reflective tape covered bouy was scarfed up by ME...
and sometime soon it'll be made into a roadside mailbox for me & Laura.
Don't think we did not PAY for it.... That smelly thing was crammed into Laura's Nissan 300Z and smelled with us all the way home.
The poster map I made for the October monthly run and got a copy made for Big Daddy was "stolen" by Danny Brantley down at the Broward show. He went and framed it and it was the final thing auctioned. Several heavy hitters battled for it, and it ended up selling for $800!!!!!!!!!!!
The finale was the drawing for the raffle of the Diamondback boat they were giving away. Some guy who was not present won.
Parking boats at Camp Mack was a NIGHTMARE!!! There were so many boats. After the party there broke up, we rode off the the Milk Bus. I've never seen so many boats at the bus! Laura and I walked the line of boats and counted 112. But more were arriving, and the final count was probably closer to 150 boats.
We took off on a ride to get some wind on our faces, and found ourselves back at Camp Mack so we decided to call it a day. We left a big group of our Southern Airboat family out at the bus - having a grand time cooking up hot dogs and frog legs.
Photos to follow.
What a fun day!!!!!!!!!!!
