CNC Machining

I need some help from yall once again. Id like to start machining airboat parts and other things to make a little side money so I could afford to buy a house lol. I just need some ideas on things to make. I think Im already designing my own gas pedal with custom engravings and such but if yall got anything gimme some ideas. Its sucks being poor :)

How about prop hubs, have you seen how expensive they are from Sensenich,Water Walker etc... I have seen used blades for sale on Airboattrader but then you add the price of a hub and it's nearly the price of a whole new prop . Just a thought.

Several different lengths of Bel Cranks. Not for steering but for various linkages around the boat where ya need a reach but too tight for a cable to turn freely in.

2"x4", 2"x6", 2"x8" Maybe.

How about proper header flanges that are at least 1/2" thick.

Im sure there are probably 25-50 items that could benefit fromk your expertise if ya do some serious digging.

Just a thought. A prop mounting hub assembly for an automotive DD setup that would take some of the thrust load off of the engine crankshaft.
You'd make both the prop hub, and a thrust plate that would bolt to the rear of the engine.

I would love to do the prop hubs, but without a drawing, it would be one hell of a reverse engineering project. Olf maybe you can show me an example of what you mean would be cool.

If someone has some general demensions I can draw one in Catia and send you a Step file if you like. Or what do you need your files in??

An iges would be good. I have mastercam at school and free range of machines. I would love to do the prophub for fun though. I just dont want to get in any suit with Sensinech lol

Yah I was thinking of something else. I would not touch Sensinich's hub with a 10 ft pole. I like them and would not consider doing it. Besides in the big scheme of things I don't know if you could really build it cheaper then they sell it.

Just a prop adapter with a thrust bearing in it, like a roller in oil. The Hubs are likely patented.

i could make it for free at school, well my tuition is pretty cheap. I would love to do one for the challenge but Im sure they are patented. I think im gonna start with gas pedals, flag holders, and grips for rudder sticks. Ill post photos when I get some prototypes.

Rudder Stick- I would love a Gator Head. Pointing forward. I don't know if that would work.

yea i think id build things that most likely want kill people unless you want to retain a good lawyer, form a s corp. or llc not to mention a patent research. well ya know what they say it takes money to make money .

this was an idea i'll share that come up when my boat porpoised. why dont u fabricate a trim tab with a hinge and angled/loaded by a spring or rubber. i have read that most people here had an angle bar tab which is bent and rebent after a while due to ground running. if it was spring loaded just enough not to retract from the force of the water stream on water running and will flex enough against the ground then you'll have a nice working trim tab.

one very possible advantage to this scheme is that you may be able to make the tab self adjusting in the water i.e. the tab retracts in respect to speed. this is a very fact that you'll only need a fraction of the tab angle at high speed compared to that at lower speed.

therefore, the tab is steep angled at low speed and self adjusts with speed in the water while totally retracts upon ground running and resets upon return to water running.

i could have made this type of tab but my mini VW airboat that porpoised had a fiberglass laminated tab that do the function. it flexes as needed but it wont last even if i just run dry ocassionally.

by the way, i think stainless would be best.... if it works, just send me a case of beer!

if anyone reading this wants a job and has some experience, or mechanical abilities, a machine shop I work for is looking for people. Let me know,
