Hey ptr34. I've been reading posts on plugs and checked on heat ranges. I sent a chart to Rick, maybe he will post it.
Years ago, D-16s & D-18s were used because they were available, (fit John Deere tractors). I ran D-10 Champions, (cold plug), in my 170 for years without any fowling or problems whatever, (high compression, helo cam, afraid of hot plug in that motor).
I bought this rig used, (High compression pistons, 0360), and it had Denso L14-U,(resister, twelve MM thread, .472 reach), fairly hot plug, slightly wrong thread and reach. I allready had some D-14s, (12.7 MM thread, 1/2" reach, non-resister), put them in, runs ok, but, ceramic is bigger and is tearing up my new wire boots.
I've ordered Autolite 373s, (12.7 MM thread, 1/2 " reach, non-resister), comparable to Champion D-9 heat range. Will let everyone know how they work.
A comparable Denso would be a M22, #s go up for colder.
All these #s are 18 MM.
