Collier County Proclamation

Dakota

Well-known member
Just thought you guys would like to see this.

Collier County Proclamation

Another accolade. I hope many of you share these accolades with the public. On a somber note, I understand a hero from the Palm Beach has passed away since his return from New Orleans from possible complications from exposure to the toxins out there. While very unfortunate, let's do justice by informing others of why these Proclamations are being offered & the sacrifice made by the folks who went. This is bitter sweet.

WHEREAS, airboating is a traditional form of family recreation in Florida; and,

WHEREAS, because airboaters are adept at skimming through marshes, around lakes and down rivers as well as through bogs and swamps, they have become an invaluable ally of law enforcement because they can provide the best means of search and rescue; and,

WHEREAS, the airboater has learned through experience how to maneuver through treacherous conditions and obstacles; and,

WHEREAS, airboaters willingly assisted in the rescue efforts after Hurricane Katrina; and,

WHEREAS, these volunteer airboaters endured polluted waters, life threatening conditions, severe damage to their vessels, and extreme physical hardship; and,

WHEREAS, the determination and dedication of these individuals is an example for all; and,

WHEREAS, these volunteer airboaters, as members of the Florida Airboat Association, are engaged in creating an airboat rescue service for the animals who also are victims of disasters like Hurricane Katrina.

NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners

of Collier County, Florida, we hereby commend and congratulate the volunteer Florida airboaters who saved lives in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and recognize their heroic efforts of these selfless individuals.

Dakota, thanks for posting.

I'm working on a few other counties. These Proclamations don't just happen, you have to MAKE them happen.

If you're in Polk, Lake, Palm Beach, Citrus, Marion or know of someone in your county that went to New Orleans, please send an e-mail or call your county commission (copy them on the Governor's Proclamation) and ask them to issue a similar proclamation for your local N.O. hero. If the county does issue a Proclamation, we need to locate the local folks who went to N.O. so they may be present to recieve it.

These folks that went deserve a pat on the back from all of us.

I am so glad to see this in my home town.It needs to happen in everybodys town.GIANT CONGRATULATIONS FOR BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.And SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL AIRBOATERS WHO SCRACIFICED ALL THE LITTLE THINGS TO HELP OUT PEOPLE WHOM THEY NEVER MET TILL THAT PERTICULAR MOMENT.

Just proves that TRUE AMERICANISM is not dead. Heroes are made of strange stuff............. they are just like you and me. Common folks who arise to uncommon events.

Congratulations to both the partiscipants in N.O. and to the Counties and State for recognising their efforts.

Volunteering to help is an American way of life that is lost on other cultures and in other nations. It sets us apart in normal times and makes us shine in hard times.

Amen!

High fives to those of our County Commissioners here in Collier for recognizing such valiant efforts. The airboaters who went to N.O. deserve so much more as far as I'm concerned.

Good work Gatorstick, (Dakota how do you find this stuff when I live right here)
