hey guys i have a chance to get a real good deal on a 10.5 ft boat . my only problem is the guy does not know what size the 4cyl continental motor is he says the motor runs but he thinks the carb is flooding it out . any ways the i.d tag reads this
1400228ac-42133968.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks darrell

he told me he does not know. he did tell me it has a kidney shaped oil pan so i aked a couple friends and they told me it was a 65.
2nd question will this motor push me around the marsh and how well.
i'm about 180 and would mainly use it for hunting, would like to try giggin although i've never done it before.
a little background on me i am new to the airboat world sa far as owning and driving,i am in the process of building a 12ft combee,350 dd. but would like to have aircraft ,is this worth it. trading a john boat + 4hp evinrude.will post pics as soon as i get them

If it is an A-65 it will have a taper shaft and a 4 quart sump. It sounds like a good buy to me. It won't run dry but would be a blast on the water. The carburetor is usually an easy fix but they are a sweet motor. I just rebuilt one for my Aeronca Chief.

Post pictures and they story will unfold. If you can't or don't know how, let us know and someone will certainly help.
As another option: Take the boat to an airboat builder for evaluation, again if you don't know who/where, let us know and surly someone will help. :)
As far as "will this motor push me around the marsh" The true answer is only found by trying it out.

hey guys thanks for the help as soon as i get some pics i will post them.
if it is the 65 are parts readily available just in case?

hey david thanks for the help.
my wife helped me post the link i still don't understand?
i talked to some one else they told me it could be a 90 and not to bother with it cause parts are hard to find.
i'm still not sure so any info/advice would be appreciated.
i hope i can get parts for this motor cause i was just lookin in the mini section and some of those hulls look like fun :D

That doesn't look like a 90. The old style lunch box Bendix mags were popular on the A-65.
They are heavy. Do you have a taper shaft or a flanged crankshaft? It looks like it has some serious corrosion.
I'm sure that isn't a C-90 but if it was you can get most parts to convert it to an O-200.
The A-65 and A-75 had tachometers that turned backwards compared to the C series. Does it have a tach?

i'm not sure on the tach these are the pics he e-mailed me,i have not even seen the boat yet it might be a while i have been pretty busy and he's about an hour and a half away. he did leave out some #s on the tag don't know if this helps or not

The Continental O-170 is the military designation for the A-65-8.
It probably came from an old Taylorcraft L2.
As long as the crank is good you can get most parts for that engine.
From all that corrosion it looks like it could use a good overhaul before you use it.
I would get rid of those Bendix bricks and put on a nice set of Slick mags.

THANKS DES MOINES BOATER YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT HELP.
JUST CURIOS IF THE CRANK IS GOOD HOW MUCH WOULD AN OVERHAUL COST (ROUGHLY) AND THESE SLICK MAGS YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT?
JUST TRYING TO WATCH THE POCKET A LITTLE.
