Continental Info

This is mainly directed to Rick but somebody else may know too...at the ride last weekend we were talking about either a website or some other source of info on Continental Engine specs. Could you post the link or send me the info. Thanks.

Hey Scout,
I know I'm not Rick, but just trying to help.

Check the airboat directory on the upper right homepage screen of this site. Look under airboat parts suppliers. The ones I think your looking for are ducarra aviation. They have manuals for the gpu engines. My Dad bought a set, and they were quite spendy. Thev'e got parts as well, but I've seen mixed reviews about that.

Check it out.

Cowboy, thanks but they didn't have what I was looking for. Rick had said he knew of a place that had specs readily availible(free) that detailed HP and such for different continental engines. Thanks again though.

Dang it Mood!

Could'nt you make me look any skinnyer that that? Everyone who sees that is gonna say" look at the fat man, on the little boat"

Just kidding Matt. It's a real nice picture. I'll see about getting it printed.
I had not thought of that.

I had founda site before that listed all the lycoming engines built, and gave some info about each.
I never found it for continentals, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

I have an angle valve 470 that was made in august of 64. At least that is a date stamped on the motor. I was just interested in seeing what it was rated to. I know there are about 1million different versions of the 470 with a wide range of HP. I am curious that's all. If we can't come up with anything it is no big deal. I know it is at least 245HP but Rick thought it might be more.

Adam - That website I referred to was Continental's website. Here's the link, but for some reason it's not coming up right now: http://www.tcmlink.com/

If you can't get their website to work, tell me exactly which motor you have. I probably have the data sheet. (example: O-470-U or IO-470-C)

I spoke with a friend who used to own my motor and he said it used to be fuel injected and he thinks it was rated at 250. That would make it an model IO-470-C. I don't have fuel injection now so I would say it is around 240HP-245HP. Am I right?

Am I reading the fuel grades right and that some of these motors are rated for grades as low as 80. If so, my motor is rated for 91.

Thanks for your help everybody.

Matt, that article made me love my motor even more!! I always looked at it as sturdy and dependable. It may not be the fastest but it is far from the slowest on the water. That was an excellent article and thanks for the link. I think anyone who owns any version of the 470 should definitely read that article!!!

Rick, that looks like her just mine doesn't have the fuel injection and a few other changes.

With the fuel it says 91/96 min. What does this mean exactly? Is it that 91 is the min octane for this motor?
