If sinking(swamping) is so prevalent, why not have the little outrigging pontoons you see on flats boats, installed on the transem of a airboat. You could install them a little above water line, and helpwith the rear floatation? Am I missing something?

just a thought while out learning how to drive my new boat

It doesn't happen that often, we just talk about it a lot to scare off weak-hearted folk

I've never swamped a boat from the rear. 8)
But, I did roll one over sideways while trying to turn around too quick in a canal. (With my father-in-law aboard)

H73, I have two empty five gal fuel jugs (the substantial summit kind) strapped in my bow storage locker. They don't add much weight and are easy to take out and use if I need them. I like knowing I have about 200lbs of flotation if I happen to sink in deep water. I also have a floating bow line, floating ditch bag w/eprib,large distress flag under my seat cover, etc, etc. Gotta prepare for the worse and hope it never happens.

Where do you get a floating bowe line? Or do you just attach something that floats to a rope?

RED! ANY MARINE SUPPLY STORE HAS IT ! ITS CALLED FLOAT ROPE !SO YOU DONT HAVE TO USE FLOATS ON MULLETT NETS ! IT FLOATS VERY WELL ! MALHONEY HAS IT HERE ! BUT DONT KNOW ABOUT WHERE YOU ARE OR THATS WHAT WE USED IT FOR ! :D

Somewhere I read this: "Thar ain't but two kinds of airboats: those that've sunk and those that hadn't yet". YMMV.
