Noticed yesterday that Shelter built by the FWC on Cow S*^#t Mound had been burned down. Also a new Pravilian including BBQ gril has been built at Possum Bluff. Neither was done 3 Weeks ago!

SJWMD Built a pavillion with picnic tables here on the econ. Maybe they replaced the one at C.S. mound with the new one at possum bluff.

Hope it was them, The roof on the new one is pretty high & no sides, so won't keep out much rain if you get caught out there in one of the big thunder bumpers!

That shack on cow shat mound was not much of a shelter. If it was raining and clouds shooting sparks - it's the LAST place I'd be - up on the tallest bump in a prairie. That place was not much of a shelter anyway. More of a lightning magnet and beer bottle catcher.

A nice landmark too. Sad to see it go.

Oh well, it'll live on in the Diamondback advertisements for a few years at least.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new possum bluff structure.

If it was burned intentionally I hope the one that did it feels like a piece of crap now. Sides or no sides that hut saved me many times from hail, rain , and lightning. That really sucks.

Someone told me yesterday that the state came in and bulldozed the mound. Has anyone been there and can verify that?? I can't believe they would have but that's what they said.

I was told by FWC that the St.Johns Water Management got rid of the shelter. Get this, and it was bound to happen. To much trash and broken bottles left behind. Soooooooo if you don't clean up after your done there will be none left.

Took a ride out there over the weekend and yup It's gone, worst part is that now at night there aint a single landmark to look for when you need to just get your bearings.
Looks to me that the man was the ones that burned it down and when they built the new one at Opossum Bluff they had to trim some trees and even left the wood for firewood.
Had to help someone get in that was from outta state cause thier buddy's where DRUNK AND LEFT THEM OUT THERE, LUCK THING I WAS THERE!!!

Hey Mood

I took that picture on Diamondbacks web site that was a cool old shack its a shame if some one burnt it down, just can't understand why folks can't leave things alone

Great their on that kick again they burned down a ton of cabins in the 80's around here. How come they don't burn down neighborhoods that just pile trash up in their yards and don't keep their yard up! P.S. a bunch of us are planning an OAK Head clean up around two weeks from now. We need to clean that area up to many @$$ Holes have been leaving their trash there too. Anyway we will spend the day there and BBQ so I will post it the week of!

thats great PR work dave, wish my boat was done and i could start making these get togethers, soon though, felber is almost done. :)

Dave, keep us posted on the clean up, would love to come up and help. Last time I was up that way it did need it. Really a shame to have such awesome places to hang out, and then see how people abuse it. SCUMBAGS! Anyway, I want to show my bro that neck of the woods, would be great time to do it. BTW, that's an awesome powerplant he has, and I'm very jealous of his fuel mileage so far.

Just as long as it is not the weekend of the 19th. Let us know when, would love to go and help out for sure

It will be a cool shin dig, I'm going to supply the food. Me and some freinds have been doing this for years but now there is so much trash it takes more people! Everyone will be invited and I will have all the details next week!

I would be glad to help out and could pass it on to scac if you want. We are having a clean up here on june 2n'd at lake harney also.

You know, it may be worth while to tie it in with the ST. JOHNS RIVER CLEANUP DAY and National River Cleanup Week - June 2nd as Geneva Dave mentioned.

They cleanup the WHOLE RIVER that day but I think Lake Harney is as far south as the organizers plan it out.

Maybe that could be changed.

Laura and I are planning on boating and taking part in a cleanup event SOMEPLACE that day. We have not decided where, but the Lake Winder/Washington/Oakhead area sure is beautiful.

Yeah Dakota - we're planning on going to the May 19th shindig at Overstreet landing too.

matt.
