Cowboy to the rescue

Larry

Moderator
I just wanted to thak cowboy for pushing me back to the boat ramp Sat. About 8 1/2 miles into the 3a run my dads gpu broke the crankshaft right at the last main journal. Thankfully Cowboy was behind me and stopped to help. I also wanted to thank all the others that had stopped to see if everything was ok instead of just passing bye as well. Cowboy pushed me back to the ramp for over 2 hours and helped me load the boat up before trying to catch up with the rest of the ride group. Well I have a boat to take apart but I just wanted to say thanks to a true airboater and a good friend .

Thank You Chris

Larry

Cowboy is a great follower  He actual had to help my in later that night to

DAMN NO WONDER I COULDNT GET HOLD OF HIM TO COME SAVE ME HE WAS A BUSY MAN SAT.... LOL  I HAVENT GOT TO MEET HIM IN PERSON YET BUT HE SURE SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD OLD BOY !!

I GOT TO THE RAMP AT ABOUT 1;00 OR SO , I BORROWED MY BUDDY'S 14 FT 550 CONT. STOSSEL BOAT. UNLOADED THE BOAT COULDNT GET IT STARTED(FUEL INJECTION IS GREAT WHEN IT WORKS AND WILL GIVE YOU HELL WHEN IT DONT) BATTERY DIED , PULLED THE FRONT OF THE BOAT UP ON THE BANK AT THE END OF THE RAMP WHILE I WORKED ON IT , AFTER A FEW MINUTES I NOTICED THE BACK OF THE BOAT SITTIN LOW , THATS ABOUT THE TIME I SAW BOTH DECK LIDS WERE CRACKED AND TAKING ON WATER LIKE THE TITANIC. ME AND THE WIFE GOT TO TAKE A NICE SWIM IN A MAD DASH TO GET A ROPE AND GET IT TIED TO THE TRAILER CABLE AND WINCHED BACK UP THE RAMP BEFORE THE HOLE BOAT WENT UNDER..BUT THE DAMAGE WAS DONE THE BACK OFF THE BOAT SANK ENOUGH THE FUEL TANK FILLED WITH WATER AND ENDED ARE TRIP.. :( THE PART THAT REALLY SUCKED WAS THERE WAS TWO BASS BOATS THERE AND A GUY AND HIS FAMILY FISHIN OFF THE FLOATIN DOCK AND NOT ONE OF THEM OFFERD TO LEND A HAND.. GOTTA GIVE IT TO THE OLD LADY MAN SHE BAILED OFF IN THE CANAL AND HELPED ME KEEP THE FRONT OF THE BOAT UP AND PULLED BACK UP THE RAMP...SHES ALRIGHT IN MY BOOK , I THINK IM GONNA KEEP HER !!

Dusty, sounds like you got great wife there you definitely need to keep her. When are y'all coming up to our neck of the woods? Did JC build your friends 550? Al has Merts new hull about finished.

Dave

There again, it takes a special kind to donate his time for the sake of others. Thanx Cowboy. Later, Cajun

Here is what happened to dad's motor, cracked right at the number 5 crank throw. Only had the rear main bearing holding the prop on the boat. Don't know if this was the result of having no counterweights on the crank but you can bet they will be there when it goes back together. Gonna put a hotter cam in it while it's apart and possibly a set of angle valve 470 cylinders as well.

Larry

Larry,

Sorry to hear about your dad's motor. Good you got her shut down before things started grenading too! Cowboy and his brother CaneFan are about the best folks anybody could ever meet in the woods!
For those who have not met him...He'll be at the Southern Airboat booths at the shows coming up in a couple of weeks signing autographs of his new book"things that happen in the woods"!

Sorry to hear about Gordon's boat Larry. Same thing happen to his ankle??? Maybe? LOL

Brewster - it's gotta suck to borrow a friends boat then sink it right off the trailer. OUCH!!! That's the stuff that good stories (and friendships) are made of.

Cowboy just bein' Cowboy. Hats off to you!!! :)

matt.

Hats off to Cowboy, You are THE MAN.
THANK YOU for being there to help.
it sure does give me a warm and fuzzy feelin', knowing there are great folks like you out there if / when I find myself in trouble out in the Glades.
it looks like there is some competition for the title of Greatest Airboater Ever :) :) :)

Larry, real sorry about the way your day ended just as it got started.

goldhunter_2, what happened ?

I'll share some more stories about the weekend when I get a little more time, Glad to hear almost everybody had a good time and everybody made it back safe.

well i thought I left with the group going back to the ramp but didn't work out that way one of the guys showed me a map but I guess i got off on the wrong trail then found out I have a power problem and since my fuel pump is elec .......... well it's a learning lesson at least mine was not as bad as larry's crank

Way to git-r-done cowboy. I miss riding with you guys. I will see you at the Palm Beach Show.....right?

Hey Larry,
If I'd had to guess Friday night who might need a shove out of the marsh, you would have been my LAST guess.
Every dog has his day, and mine will come. I know if your able, you'd do the same for me 10 times. As far as the good friend comment, right back atcha 10 times over.
Your a solid airboater man. It was my honor and priveledge to be able to help ya.
A chance like that probably will never come my way again.

Thanks for all the compliments y'all.
It was really no big deal.

Just so y'all know what a superhero airboater I really am, listen to this:

I was enjoying my ride through the cypress Sunday morning.
Heading on back to the trailer, bopp'in along at about 10 mph.

Everything was perfect.

Just cruise'in along easy, watching all the birds and the butterflies.
Then for no reason, an 8" cypress tree jumped out in front of the boat when I was'nt look'in.
I saw it about 20" from the hit. Too late, just let off the throttle.
Slow-mo smooooosh went the grass rake.

Did'nt hurt the boat none, just hammered the tube rake.
Oh well... I neer really liked that rake all that much anyhow.
Best part was calling Canefan, and informing him that I', gonna build him a new rake for his Birthday present! He thought that was hilarious.

Hey Mrs. Dawn.
I'll be there.
Look'in forward to it.
Perhaps I can enter Canefans boat in the 4 cyl, smooshed grass rake class!
It just may win!

Yep that is funny!

You have to watch them trees, they can move a lot faster than you can turn.
I have had them do it to me many times!

goldhunter_2, Glad you and the boys are alright.
c'mon now you know there is a better story than that.
Give us all the details, maybe cowboy will share his side of the story too.

Cowboy I can see it now sliding along thinkin' ya got life real good just takin it EZ.
Then all of a sudden SMACK you gotta watch out for them cypress trees.
They are pretty, but they will hurt ya.
You certainly got a workout last weekend, I ain't sure that's what you had in mind when you signed up. I sure am glad you were there to help.

I am PROUD to know ya, Man.
