Cowboy's Dad's boat

Cowboy,

Agreed with Jim! Good article!

A lot of history behind that Palm Beach hull. (Wonder if they will ever issue us antique hull numbers for boats)?

Hey Cowboy, that 13' Kline with the 220 GPU, I was wondering how it does in the water, and dry. I have that red 12' palm beach 3/4 deck(3/8 polymer). Looking to upgrade with a 220 but not wanting to get rid of the hull. I love the way those palm beach hulls handle. You think that motor would be too much for my boat being a 3/4 deck and maybe being too heavy. Right now, with the 4 cylinder GPU, it sits about an inch until water overlap in the back. The boat is in my gallery. Open to any sugguestions by anyone. Thanks

You know.. I placed a bid on that airboat when it was on ebay. Glad to see it wasn't a mess. I had plan on taking a week off if I won the bid. Good write up Cowboy!!!

Thanks All,
Airag I thought that this boat was going to be severly underpowered, but performs very well. It will climb the levee, and all the dry any reasonable person would want. It is a bigger boat than standard. Deeper, and wider.
It's not the baddest rig on the water, but we have yet to be disapointed with it.

I think your boat would do well with a 220 on it. It's about normal for the transom waterline to be near, or at the center of the swoopdown, when the boat is sitting still. Some come up on the back deck a little.

Mudpuppy, I had been wondering if any of us Southern Airboaters had been after that boat. It was worth every penny we've got in it. That boat has made my Dad so happy, that I can't even say.

Cowboy,

Looking at Wilma and hoping for the best for all you South Florida guys.

Just an aside - This old dog has a tear forming because I feel the pride and emotion in your words about your Dad and this project. I'd give up everything I've got to have mine back. He was native Cracker and an outdoors gentleman like none I have ever met.

What with the quiet airboat competitions coming and this site's members eagerness to get together for rides and companionship; I am wondering about the "antique airboat" designation. We just might be able to pull something like that off - since FFWCC handles boat registrations and since we have several ongoing and upcoming projects with them as partners...??????

I am not the one to head this up, but, why couldn't we set some hull & powerplant specs for just such a designation? 25 years old on each? Whatever. Bet this could lead to something outstanding. Maybe a "Show and Go" requirement.

Thanks Bigdaddy,
We've got the boats sinched down, and the rudders tied off. Hope it won't be so bad over here, but worried about Basket. I know he'll pull through no matter what happens.

That boat has made my old man very happy, but the article flipped him out. He did not know I had done that piece, until he got his magazine out of the mail box. I was about to bust waiting for him to see it. But most of all, I can't wait to send a copy of it out to the Hoffmans in Kansas. It will really make them proud that so many people will know the story of that boat. His determination to get an airboat is what makes it such a great story. At least for me.

Also,
Killer idea on the vintage airboat classes for the airboat shows. These boats don't alway survive for more than a couple of decades. I'm just a sucker for airboating historical photos, and people.
