Cylinder Heads

Can anyone tell me about SBC Double Hump cylinder heads? Do they flow good, are they worth putting any money into them to have them ported? Could they flow as good as aluminum heads that don't have any porting done to them? They are cheap, $75.00 for the bare heads with 1.94 valves. Thanks for the info.

My honest opinion I would never use them for a few reasons one their 40 years old and probably have been rebuilt 5 times. Two their iron and their are so many cheap good performing aluminum heads out there. Maybe your luck is better then mine but every time I ever bought a set of (fuelies) they needed stuff like guides, or were cracked, been decked a few times and needed a few seats and I had to change the springs, retainers, locks and seals. So when I was done I had a ton of money in out dated heads that were 30 years old!

Thanks WT for the info, I figured they were real old just wasn't sure if they would be worth getting ahold of for future projects, but like you said no sense in running 30+ year old heads when you can get aluminum ones fairly inexpensive. Thanks for the help

Oh ya if you get them real cheap put them on Ebay make a little money then use it towards some nice new heads!

good advise, im old so i love em kinda nostalga sort of thing for me but like wt said there are some good heads out there that would be cheaper than what youll put in the camel heads , and there a lot of old dudes out there trying to put togeather a 69 327 and make it original , ebay can bring enough to by some world stuff

Thanks for the ideas, I might just do that, I kinda hate putting something on EBAY that I don't know the history of, whether they are cracked or alright, don't want to rip anyone off, but I guess that is just the chance you take.

Dave's givin ya some damn good advice here. I'd snatch em up in a heartbeat for that money, I just wouldn't use em on my boat. :)

Thanks Felber, I will pick them up Monday and put them on EBAY. What would something like that be worth, rough estimate, or should I just let them bid til their hearts content? Thanks again to everyone that replied.

Here's what I used to do with all my parts I didn't use and would sell. Hot tank em and get them magnafluxed so you know they're not cracked. Don't waste any money doing a valvejob or anything, because whoever buys em will probably want different components anyway. (What they're lookin for is the castings themselves that aren't junk) Document the date code and research the applications that head came on. Put all this info in your listing for keywords in people's searches, and you should get good money for them.

Typically a set of 462s in rebuildable condition are worth at least 250, but if you have a date code some guy needs for his 300HP '67 Camaro, you'll get some real coin out of them. Hope this helps!

If you post the day code and casting numbers me or Felber can tell you what year, what motor or what kind of car they came on this will help you sell them on Ebay! YOUR HEADS ARE OFF OF A 1962-67 327!

Dave's right about Camel Humps..They were used form 62 to 68, but if they're 462s They should be off a 66 to 68. 461s were the predescessor '62-65 to the 462 and 291s.

Now go match that date code and find out who needs em! LOL

Thanks for all the information Felber and WT. I was just a little too late on getting my hands on them. I guess my new motto will be buy first, then ask questions especially with a price like that. But thanks again for all your time and help. Justin
